'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

I think it's funny how people think no matter what if a kid is a stud, we will make room. It's just not going to work out like that. When you have a limit on what you can take, and the staff is obviously trying to fill it up quickly, some of these kids are not going to be Vols. If you want to see fallout, let the staff tell a kid who has been committed for months and been told "we love you" 163 times he is being booted to make room for a Hendrix or another kid who wanted to play the recruiting game. The whole "family" thing the staff is preaching would be out the window. It's just not going to happen. He is a take if there is room at the position. 2 months ago Truitt was a absolute stud to many on here and he was a take no matter what. Well, I guess that thought was inaccurate.

I agree mostly... but I think Jones and Co. will leave a few vacancies. He did an incredible job getting UT out front in the rankings very early. He has built momentum and will continue throughout the summer.

But I truly think he won't fill the class completely until kids like Hendrix, Malone, etc. have committed.

That is what I am saying when I say, "if there is room". CBJ could very well stop taking commitments with 5-6 spots left and ride it out till NSD. The thinking that he will just "make room", I'm just not buying it.

Agreed. Can't build brick by brick when you replace the third row in a 18 row wall.

There will be room. We will hold a fee spots open until right at the end. If we don't think our top targets will go for us come late January, we will take some either options.

Hope it works out better than last year. Holding spots and then trying to fill the class after NSD did not work out so well for us in the 2013 class.

CBJ didn't have time to get a real solid plan of attack for last cycle. He has for this year.

I'm betting everyone of our top targets has 2-3 "safety" options on tap. Part of me wonders if that's the deal with Booth

I feel like if the staff put up a big board of the 30 (or however many we can take) prospects they'd like to have as their committed class come NSD that Booth would be in the numbers 31-40.

Just remember, NSD is several months away, and at this point, recruiting is a very fluid situation. I feel that most of the commits we have are firm in their decision, but we have to be prepared for changes for some. Despite that possibility, this is going to be a very special class, and I hope there are more special classes to follow.

I am having a hard time believing uga is really 3rd unless he prefers 4-3. Smells funny but hey I'll take it for now. Would be a huge pull

UGA is third, for now. His "top 2" are the only schools that he's already taken OVs to. We'll find out where he stands after he takes his OV to UGA. UT and UF have certainly made it more interesting than everyone thought it would be though.

UGA will be in it at the end though. They've babysat him through 2 yrs of HS and 2 yrs of JUCO while he tried to get his grades in order.

Sounds like the good feelings from the Florida visit have already worn off. Our coaches won't give up easy though!

“it went great,”

“(i liked) knowing that the coaches are as cool as they is. I didn’t know that the coaches were like that. We grew a bond when i was up there.

“they definitely are in the top two. Of course, i have no leader right now. The way (tennessee and florida) prepare their players to go to the league is unbelievable. Those schools that i have been to, i have seen that. Florida and tennessee, they basically train their players for the league, so that was kind of shocking to me.”

“(jones) was telling me about playing time, what it takes to be a vol and the ‘brick by brick,’” lambert said, referring to jones’ popular description for how he plans to rebuild the vols’ program. “he was telling me about the whole tradition and everything. I talked to him before that, but talking to him in person, he’s a very great guy.”

“(playing time is being offered) kind of everywhere. But, mostly, i’m trying to look at everyone’s depth chart and find out what players are there when i get there. It’s a big deal (at tennessee) because they’re losing all the players, so they’ll be needing my help. They have a lot of redshirt freshmen and sophomores, so i’ll have to talk to the coaches a little bit more about that.”

“i’m trying to take all five (official visits), but i don’t think i’m going to be able to due to my games, so i’ll probably get, like, three or four in,” lambert said. “as of right now, i’m thinking about (announcing my decision in) the fall — probably in the middle of my season.”

You guys are probably right. I try not to be a star gazer but sometimes I can't help it, are creamer and Jackson better than booth? I mean I trust butch completely. I'm sure he saw something in those guys that make them commitable right away, and just because someone's star count is lower doesn't mean they won't be a stud in the long run I.e. Morris Claibourne...

I would say that Creamer and Jackson are better than Booth but like everyone on here I have no way of really knowing.

Well I base it soley on Creamer's size and versatility and Jackson's experience. Don't get me wrong I like Booth and think he is a take. The real question is he better than Malone and Lauderdale or others we are in on. Back to Lambert though.

After JC defensive lineman DaVonte Lambert named Florida and Tennessee as his top two schools this week, he got a phone call from UGA.

Only a few weeks ago, the Bulldogs had been the leader for the 6-foot-3, 275-pounder from Georgia Military junior college.

“I’m getting a lot of attention from Georgia, but I have put them outside of my top two,” Lambert told the AJC on Monday night.

“I got a call (on Monday) from the defensive line coach (Chris Wilson), and he basically had read everything I said.

“He was explaining everything to me about the d-line, how many players will be there when I get there, and when I would be able to play. He went over all of that, and we’re trying to get an official visit set up soon.”

One reason that Lambert has Florida and Tennessee ahead is because both SEC schools are where has taken his only official visits so far this summer, while another reason is that he has been getting an earful from opposing coaches about UGA’s depth chart on the defensive line.

“I’m hearing that there’s too much depth already at Georgia,” Lambert said. “From what I’m hearing, it will be around 10 linemen there when I get there. But (Wilson) was telling me that anywhere I go, there’s going to be a lot of players.”

The depth chart, along with education, will be two most important factors when Lambert expects to announce his college decision later this summer.

“I want to go somewhere where I can play right away,” Lambert said.

Lambert is a 4-star recruit who is ranked as the nation’s No. 14 overall prospect out of junior college. He played at Burke County High School, which is located around 120 miles southeast of UGA, and was brought in by the Bulldogs for an official visit as a senior.

“The people from my hometown tell me to go with my heart, and to go where I’m going to get playing time,” he said.

What’s next for Lambert? He will take his third official visit to Auburn on July 20, and then is tentatively scheduled to tour UGA sometime in July. Arkansas and Louisville are two possibilities for his fifth visit, although he hasn’t talked to either school recently.

What would it take for UGA to regain the lead? “The official visit will surprise me, hopefully,” Lambert said. “They would have to show me the depth chart and everything.”

Lambert on Florida: “I love the way they train their players. They train their players just like the NFL. I mean, if you go there and get your statistics, it’s like getting it done in the NFL. They basically get their players NFL ready.”

Lambert on Tennessee: “It was just the love that they showed me at Tennessee. It was very different from all the other schools. You know, they’ve got a new head coach and a new staff, so they are basically trying to build something new at Tennessee.”

And what about UGA? “I feel pretty good about Georgia. I like their style of defense, and how they switch players around.”

UGA has one 2014 commitment at defensive line (Carrollton High School’s Dontavius Russell) and is considered a frontrunner for another (Marist’s Kendall Baker) who will announce his college decision on July 3.

Playing time is #1 priority for this kid. We have a GREAT shot at landing him.

One of the biggest priorities in this class, also would be beating out Muschamp which is icing on the cake.

Lol @ UGA coach "there will be lots of players everywhere." That's just flat dishonest.

One look at our scholarship distribution chart ought to give us a significant edge.

I think he knows he will get playing time at both UT and UF. He definitely seemed to imply that the connection with UF was more results driven (nfl). He like the feel and atmosphere at UT, but didn't give anything regarding how they prep and play defenses. If I had given this exact interview I would be higher on UF. Lets hope not, cause this guy would be a beast!

As it stands currently, more playing time will be available at UT then UF. That said, UF rotated as much 10 guys on the d-line last season per game...so there's still an opportunity.

Dishonest?
I don't think UT is going to stop recruiting players at his position for this year and next year. Competition will catch up to you sooner or later regardless of where you go.

After losing Phillips and Taylor, technically not signing any in 2013, and losing 4 to graduation this year I wouldn't think too many in the SEC will have more PT to offer than UT in '14. Some of the freshmen we sign in this class may be playing right away next year.
