On Gray rumors...

We'd be very surprised if he comes back for this summer or ever.

We noted in the War Room and podcast last week we expected attrition but because students were still going through finals we didn't want to name names as the semester wasn't finished. But, again, as for Gray, it's very likely he's not a part of this team when they report back to Knoxville in June.

Both academic difficulties and getting passed (depth chart & PT) at play here. Transfer to WVU (if able / grades) is a possibility, CC more likely.

Haha , you just can't stop.

On CB depth...

"Oliver wasn't a factor in the spring. So he's not a part of the equation. There are walk-on's ahead of Oliver on the depth chart and Gray was passed by walk-on's as well.

Coleman, Jones are the starters. Then all newcomers will have a shot. Plenty of opportunities there."

That is ... ugh.

We're going to take some lumps this year, but we all knew that. Let's just hope we can pull out one or two wins we weren't expected to get and hopefully hold serve with the questionable games. I'll consider it a successful season if so.

I still think it's crazy.

It's a coveted position. There just aren't many 6'4"-6'8" 340-380lb athletes in the world and 3-4 defenses probably outnumber 4-3 defenses in the NFL, now.

Dan had a decent season last year with 39 tackles and in my opinion, AJ's season speaks most to Dan's value.

If he has a good season or a good combine somebody will take him in the first round.

Dontari Poe had a mediocre season at Memphis, went first round because of his work outs.
Terrence Cody had a great season at Alabama but, as I recall, was not impressive at the combine. Still went second round.
Guys like Haloti Ngata who put both together have gone in the top 5.

I don't really understand why people think this is crazy talk. Worse linemen have been drafted very high because of their size and athleticism.

okay here's the glass half full point of view. We have the best walk ons in the country

Everybody keeps bringing up the Dontari Poe example, but what makes anybody think that McCullers is going to have a similar freakish workout? Also your Poe example could just as easily be countered with Jonathan Jenkins going in the third round. Sure every now and then you'll see a team take a risk on a project in the first round (Poe, Heywardbey, etc), but most of the time if they are going to spend a first round draft pick on you they want confidence in your contributions backed up by performances at the college level.

Why don't you let him play this year before you write him off. From all reports he has been working his a$$ off.

Nowhere did I say I was writing him off, but to this point he has done nothing to warrant this top 15 draft pick talk.
