Hubbs earlier on 104.5:

from the podcast:

Trae Golden departure?academic related. not players or coaches choice to leave. unfortunate for Trae and the program. was not a situation where CCM went to Trae and cut his minutes not the case at all. all academic related

What was the relationship like between CCM and Trae? at time strained and at times ok. typical coach player relationship. CCM comments about Trae before season started last yr CCM raved about his leadership. their wher etimes last yr that Trae got under CCM skin with his defense. CCM is not running Trae out of the program.

When Trae was healthy and playing well he was one of the MVP's of the team? no question. thats why he was not shooved out the door by the coaches. when he plays well he made TN BB better. their was some inconsistancies but he played valuable minutes

Travon Landry? they where 2 over at one point. Yemi got them to 1 over and heard for several weeks about Landry. did not develop enough. applaude Landry's dad. admitted it was difficult and handled with class. got a good chance to go to tournament w/ NMST

Jordan Cornish? guy they evaluated a while. saw at Nike camp in Virg. fits well with CCM style of play. had a few nice offers.

Where is B utch sending hios staff this summer? NFL camp or College? dont know and will ask coach. dont know as a whole staff if they go anywhere. O staff may go somewhere and the D staff may go somewhere

Coach Jones has been on 4 times already more than Dooley and Fulmer combines? show he has listened to a lot of people that TN needs a stronger presence in Nashville. wether Caravan stop, Boys Girls club whatever. Butch is media savy and doesnt mind dealing with them. TN has to have a strong presence throughout the state.

Nashville prospects? highlights of the recent Nashville camp? interesting thing about that camp is we knew about Malone and Gaulden but what stood out is that it is not a cycle up or one good year class. It goes deep to 2015 and 2016. depth of talent in Nash is only getting better. Nash is a fixture and will not go away.

Replacement for Trae? will look at prep school or JUCO route. finding someone this late in the game is difficult. Graduate program may be a route. Barton name has come up. Kansas St and Syracuse has been mentioned. Barton would be a good choice. stranger things have happened. Maybe Stokes will have some pull there. Maymon coming back is more important than ever. he is a PT Forward in halfcourt sets. may have to run more through him to help ease th transition for the new PG

SEC Network? value for TN? huge check will help. its about finacial dollars than anything else

Orlando Brown? biggest concern is managing the weight. alot of potential. people have known about him for a long time. has a lot of offers for a 3 star just needs to get his body better

McShay's top 30? Tiny and McCullers in that group? McCullers has more upside than anyone. most covetted position in FB. no player was pushed harder than McCullers and the result is he is in the best shape of his life. upside is big. not a ton of names next yr at DT.

That's all folks! Go Vols!

A poster on VQ summarizes Hubbs segment on 104.5 each week. That's his summary. I always find it interesting.

I find the comments on D. McCullers especially interesting - I'm sure Hubbs is sharing the views he's heard from many in the program. If this staff can get him to reach his full potential this year, he could be an absolute beast. I have a feeling they can.

Watching D. McCullers get after it in Autzen next fall should be especially entertaining, I think.

We haven't been down that long. About five years. If CBJ turns it around like it's looking like I would compare it more to like bama's dip during the Mike Price, Franchione, and Shula years.

True enough. But I'm thinking more of the fact that we've had 4 losing seasons in 5 years. No other major SEC program has had that since LSU went through a similar spat in the late 1980's / early 1990's. Even Bama at it's lowest point still popped off an occasional 10win year and managed to find its way in and out of the AP top 25 most years.

Alabama:

LSU:

With this said, we'll be back much sooner than most CFB watchers expect. Not this year I don't think, but certainly by CBJ's third year (at latest).

On D. Gray:

Gray's departure is not performance-based, rather a violation of team rules. He plans to continue playing football at another university. Look for news of his joining another roster, perhaps closer to his Florida home, this summer.

Hopefully sutton and/or foreman can provide quality minutes.

And hopefully jones/Coleman/brown can
Stay healthy

Those two would be awesome pickups. Hopefully something happens by the end of the week. I just dont see how anyone has Truitt rated as a 3-star. Man that kid looks incredibly quick and explosive. His lateral quickness is the best I've seen out of any prospect in the '14 class.

McDowell would be awesome. I know some are talking about moving him to OLB, but I really like the idea of a 6'2" 200 lb safety that can run.

He doesn't look like a future LB to me. Out of all the safety recruits Tennessee is in on I'd say Nick Glass may be the best overall fit at being a future OLB.

Going off the McDowell tweets, he would be the most likely of other candidates.

McDowell said he is going to "try and wait until February".

Truitt would be a good guess, he's been a heavy Vol lean for a while. Gaulden is another Vol lean, he could make it public anytime.

Then again, there are always the Berry brothers.

On Gray rumors...

We'd be very surprised if he comes back for this summer or ever.

We noted in the War Room and podcast last week we expected attrition but because students were still going through finals we didn't want to name names as the semester wasn't finished. But, again, as for Gray, it's very likely he's not a part of this team when they report back to Knoxville in June.

it wasnt too long ago that saying something like that in this thread got you blasted

Yeah, I recall a big discussion on McCullers right after the O&W game, with some saying he didn't give max effort. That was disputed by CBJ himself, who later called McCuller's effort in the O&W game the best he'd had all spring.

I'm really pulling for the guy. He was one of my favorite recruits from that class and I think he just has the potential to be an absolute menace on the field.
