i agree here - our MAJOR concerns come Fall are

1) can we find speed at LB

2) can we find someone to put pressure on the QB

3) can we find a QB

4) can we find someone that can cover at CB

5) can the offense "get" system, remember CBJ went 4-8 his first year at Cincy

1) Brent Brewer/ Sapp

2) Corey Vareen/ Jordan Williams

3) Josh Dobbs

4) Rihyad Jones

5) Gotta just hope they get this, i have more faith in these coaches than last years to get the job done.
RB talent and depth are much less concerning to me than those things - especially if Lane comes back in the fold

Manning: I really feel like we were fortunate to hire Butch Jones.

I bet PM feels like most of us...can't believe we supported DD for as long as we did after hearing and seeing what CBJ is doing smh

The reason RB is not a huge concern this year is because we will have one of, if not the best OLine in the country. Raijon and Hill will be able to get us through the year with solid RB play IF we lose Lane. They just aren't going to break the big one. Raijon has improved every year though, and I think he fits this scheme well as long he can stay disciplined to it. But it will get him out on the edge where he likes to be,

Yeah Marquez is going to come in and walk through this high tempo fast paced offense blindfolded. He won't need a lick of an adjustment period of 11 practices in. I can't wait.

You obviously can't read. Please quote where I said North would have this offense mastered by the time he arrives on campus and would start Day 1....

All I said was that we need North to show up. He's a very talented receiver. I never said he would start. But Marquez brings 3 valuable things to the WR group... skill, competition, and depth.

Do I expect Marquez to make a splash like Amari Cooper did last year? No, and for a couple reasons.

Brown, we are in the lead pack for Bars and we have a good one committed now.

That is not a great position but better than what we have for DT.

I guess you could say OL and DT are concerns for sure.

We lead for Davis and Bates at LB and have a ton of other names we are up near the top for.

We lead for Hendrix at DE and are right up there on a bunch of others as well.

we are not in his top 8 on rivals..

??

These are all great points and to add to 5) we have a tougher schedule. Hopefully we catch some breaks, b/c it really does feel like the clouds have lifted from this program! It is a great time to be a VOL!

What if Neal gets hurt? He's going to be banged up at times if he's the #1 RB. I would bet a paycheck the coaches see RB as a huge concern. Which is why they're still searching for a 2013 RB according to Hubbs.

I share the mixed feelings people have about Dyer. He was reported to be a very disruptive presence in the Auburn locker room, and he had a thing for his gun. The team does not need that. But he has not been in a locker room for a long time. He took the advice of his uncle and matriculated at a Baptist community college. Change comes hard for young, bone headed, super talented guys, but we should not rule it out. With a year or so of humility and reflection, Dyer might have his head screwed on straight. It's coach's decision.

Two RBs isn't enough and what makes you so sure about Hill?

If Neal gets hurt we are a Grade D at RB (C- at most) because nobody besides Neal has RB carries in game situations. Now, if we moved DY or Pig back to RB then we add more people that have carried, but we have seen how that has worked out for us in game situations. Are there any other RB's being mentioned besides Dyer that the staff is looking at?

at some point if i truly look at all the concerns i will just get depressed Ron - so i stop my list with those 5 and know that we are in better hands now than we have been in some time so the coaching is just going to have to help make the difference on some of the other concerns

but if you are wondering if i have forgotten about our kicking and special team concerns, RB quality and depth, WR experience, TE experience and talent, best safety coming off an ACL tear, etc, etc etc - no i havent - i just think some are a little more critical concerns than others

Are you trying to tell me Brent Brewer will not add speed to our LBs????? And have you heard CBJ praise of Sapp?? come on

I've read everything coming from spring camp. If you think Brewer and Sapp are SEC-caliber LBs we need to succeed, then you are in for disappointment come this fall.

At LB, we need guys that have lateral quickness. I honestly haven't seen much of that from Brewer.

Not gonna lie, this Lane situation worries the heck out of me. If he comes back I'd have to disagree with ya. We should be pretty dang good at rb. Without Marlin depth is a major concern.

With ya on Dyer. If it was my decision I'd pass.

Low standards for good RBs I see. Especially at UT

Our offensive line is what makes me so sure that we can put anyone in the back field, and as long as they are well coached to hit a hole and hit it hard then we are going to be fine in the running game.

No, we won't have a top running game, but we can have an average to above-average run game easily with this OLine.

Many of no name RBs could make a name for themselves behind this line, if they just do what a coach tells them. When you have an OLine that opens up what ours does, then you get production just by execution.

btw, I WANT Dyer for sure! I'm not saying we have the talent we need at RB, just that we can have a good running game with this OLine no matter who we throw back there.

RB is obviously a major question mark. However, I am glad our O line is as good as it is as that will mask some issues. Neal was having a good year last year before getting hurt. We still lack a third and short running back, and we have since Hardesty left IMO. This offense is more fitting for the RBs we have on our roster, as it should get them in space and involved in the screen game.

I think our Defense will be 30-35 positions better nationally than last year in ypg. I think we will be about 50-60 spots higher in turnovers forced. If Lane comes back, I will feel better about our depth there. Don't sleep on JRM either, I think we will see him get some carries.

Last point: seeing a not great product on the field is much easier when we are recruiting the way we are. In February we will probably be signing a five and four star running back.

This! :good!: We'll make it through this year ok (I'd love to pick up Dyer though). Next year we will have a two headed monster at RB. Hurd and Paulk will bring back the UT running game we are used to seeing. Although it will look different in this offense.
