We've got a really good one on campus in JRM.

I agree, I think he's the best RB on our roster. It's too bad he's not able to practice this spring. If they don't bring in Dyer or someone else JRM will likely have to play RB this fall in Lane doesn't get it together.

Jones is expected to address Lane's status following Saturday's scrimmage. But with options so limited at tailback, don't be surprised to see more of the work moving forward that involves both Devrin Young and Pig Howard in the backfield.

Nathan Peterman has gotten more first-team reps this week than at any point this spring and he's at times responded. Peterman had some strong moments and moved the offense this week. Consistency is the buzz-word for both Peterman and Justin Worley, if not the entire team's challenge.

As we mentioned earlier in the week, we think running back Travon Paulk is going to be re-ranked in May as a 4-star prospect and wide receiver Neiko Creamer could possibly move up as well. Both have had good performances at camps in the past few weeks.

Seriously, they have holes to fill. And they aren't going to come out of spring ball with a ton of answers.

As Butch Jones has said their margin of error is very slim. Honestly, if they had a stud at tailback I think everyone would feel a little better about things. But right now on offense, the question is who is going to make a play.

Defensively they are better than at any point a year ago. Offensively, they aren't comparable to last year right now.

Must. Get. Dyer.

Should OL/DL recruiting be a concern?

Not on April 12th. I think they are involved with alot of prospects. They have had more ties to skill guys which has helped them to get those guys on campus more than lineman. I think you will see alot of new linemen names come up in the coming weeks when they get out and make evaluations on guys.

Honestly, Ron, I don't think Dyer is worth it. At all.

But you are one of my favorite posters, so there's that.

We NEED a stud RB this fall. Need. Lane is having trouble with discipline, Neal isn't good enough, is Hill or Summerhill really going to become a great RB over the next 5 months? Very doubtful. The staff is considering moving Pig and DY to RB and we're already very thin at WR.

Why don't you think it's worth bringing in a proven stud RB? He had some trouble, went to some JUCO or wherever he is and wants a shot to play one more season. He only needs to be a good boy for a few months this fall and then he's off to the NFL.

If not Dyer, what's your solution to our desperate need for a RB?

2013 is going to be a wash anyway. You have Hurd and Paulk coming in for 2014. Neal will be serviceable this year as a starter. While RB isn't going to be a strength, it's not going to be a huge weakness. Remember, we as fans always overreact to spring ball and what coaches are saying. We'll be average at RB.

You don't bring in somebody who has been dismissed from multiple teams unless you feel confident he has moved past the transgressions. If Dyer has, then the staff will bring him in. But he is not a "need" or a "must get." That's hyperbole.

I think I tend to agree here - the RBs actually had a very good YPC last year - it was more a willingness than an ability to run that was at issue (time and score obviously coming into that as well)

I get that our outside threats prob made the our YPC from the backs look a bit better than it truly was but i am not sure i would go to this being a huge weakness

imo if we find a QB this year our offense will be good - if not, we won't have enough talent to compensate (and this would be true with or w/o Dyer) - so if one of worley, peterman, dobbs, or riley can step up and be the guy we will make plays and move the ball

if not its going to be a long season

I have mixed emotions here. I think he would help, no doubt. If I brought him in he would know he had no leash...none. However, not sure what kind of message this sends when building a program.

I would like to see Pig get some touches out of the backfield. Not an every down back obviously, but a weapon who needs the ball in his hands.

I guess I just hate wasting this OL, they deserve a great RB. And we don't have one. I'm not overreacting to spring ball, the WR's will come around and when the freshman get on campus they'll get every opportunity to earn a spot, the D is already better than last year. I just feel like with a really good to great RB we could be a pretty good team in 2013. It's an important piece.
