We do have less talent than Stanford. And Stanford is one of the most disciplined teams in the country, with an AMAZING coaching staff.

We are not on their level right now.

This. Imo Stanford is built well on the lines as well. That is one of the reasons why they give Oregon trouble.

I think it'll be amazing what some of these "overrated" players look like with actual good coaching.

This is what I was getting at. I'm the farthest thing from a star gazer, thats not how that was meant to come off.

But even so, star gazer or not, people look at Bama and Georgia and all the top teams, and they point to all the 4 and 5 star players on their rosters as the reason why. I'm just saying we have a good amount of those players too. Were not the exception to the rankings. It's not "Dooley's classes were overrated!" and "All our 4 and 5 stars are busts!" its the fact that we haven't had a coach doing anything on the sideline.

To simplify my point: We haven't had a signing class outside of the top 25 since like '07? Top 25 recruiting classes (star gazing or not) should equal a top 25 team as long as you have a competent coach. I don't believe that ONLY OUR recruiting classes have been overrated for the passed 6 years.

I'm tired of hearing the talent excuse. There's plenty of talent on the roster. The good thing is I think we finally have a coach that knows how to use it. :hi:

Guys, Dooley's not here anymore. Sal isn't the DC. Stop acting like we have a bunch of scrubs on this team. smh

While I agree, we shouldn't expect any more than 6 wins and a bowl game in Butch's first season. The talent IS lacking. Only one proven unit on this team. The rest is either A.) a complete enigma or B.) average/below average.

Our D-Line is terrible. We have two SEC linebackers. Corners aren't any good. Safeties are okay.

WR's are bad right now. QB, who knows?? Offensive line is GREAT. RB's are very, very average. Two good backs, then nothing besides that.

So our DLine, Secondary, and LBs are even worse than 2 years ago when we had a top 25 defense? No...

Exactly! Were thinking the same way. My first post just came off wrong.

There's plenty of talent to be used on this team! PLENTY!

When I hear that we'll be lucky to win 6 games it makes me want to go jump off the top of Neyland.

I don't even care if we did have that poor of talent! Have these last few years taught the fans nothing??

NO MORE LOWERING OUR EXPECTATIONS! WE ARE TENNESSEE! WE PLAY FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS!

If were ever exceeding expectations with 7 wins, then somebody just shoot me because that means we've become the Kentucky of the SEC.

Let's be honest, you can tell yourself that all you want but if UT goes 6-6 this fall you will not be happy. It's easy to say that now but as soon as UT loses 2 games in a row this fall this place is going to meltdown like always.

We have the talent to win 8 games with good coaching. We should be favored in 6-7 of our games. Good coaches win a game or two as underdogs.

You might say I'm setting myself for disappointment if I expect 8 wins. I say you're not being honest with yourself if you say you'll be happy with 6 wins.

Just quoting this one to say that you're the man Ron. Lol We have completely the same outlook on this team and our program.

8 wins is easily do-able this year. And I'm not budging my expectations. I'll still be disappointed bc were not in the SECCG.

Id say we have just as much if not more talent than Ole Miss did last year. They showed how much of a difference coaching can make. 7-6 and also almost beat A&M and LSU

My expectations of next year have no bearing on whether or not Tennessee ever wins a championship again.

Literally, of course they don't. But I hope you don't disagree with what I said anyway.

Championship teams don't just come out one year and start playing like champions. Dooley taught us that. Championship teams play like champions day in and day out. They believe 100% that they have what it takes, and nothing will stand in their way. If they don't win a championship then overall the season is a disappointment.

Thats the biggest thing Dooley taught me.

NEVER lower your expectations.

When you lower your expectations once, it makes it easier to lower your expectations again. Next thing you know, you have back to back to back losing seasons, and you're happy just getting 6 wins and a bowl game...

...but hey, maybe that bamboo is finally about to grow! :eek:lol: :hi:

Hate to break it to you, but we are fans not on the team. I expect our team to work at a championship level, but am not going to be ignorant to our obvious personnel flaws.

It's prob pretty hard to truly know our pass rush ability when for past two years this oline stonewalls 97 percent of all pass rush attempts.

You're confusing what I believe this team can accomplish next year with my overall expectations of the program.
