Dooley's first two classes were top 12, right?

All the feel good that Jones is enjoying right now will dry up in an instant if he doesn't get results early. It may not with you... but for a large mass of UT fans it will. I am willing to look at progress that has not produced wins but there are many who are not. Those people buy tickets, make donations, etc.

2011 class (after Dooley's first full season) we finished 13th. But if you remember we were outside the top 25 all season long and like normal had a solid close to the class.

2012 class we finished 17th and were in the 30's during the season with a solid close.

I am saying if Butch keeps us in the 5-10 range at least during August, Sept, Oct, and November while the losses are coming it will be something fans can point to and not overreact to the losses.

Make sense?

Yup. This place is going to be a zoo the moment Worley or Peterman throws their first pick 6. And after the first loss, there will be a thousand new threads about "Fahr Butch! That Big Least coach don't know nuthin' bout the SEC maaaaan!!!"

I just hope we get to a bowl game. 7 regular season wins this fall would be a really good year 1 for Butch in my eyes. But you're right, all of this excitement about recruiting and all the right things Butch has done so far will go right out the window for many as soon as we lose a game. And we're going to lose many this fall.

They might not "overreact" this year. But what about next year? He inherits ALOT of veteran OL's and DL's. That is gone in '14 AND the team will still be young at the skill positions. If losses are "reasonable" (which I don't buy) for '13 then they're just that much MORE reasonable for '14.

If Jones doesn't make an impression by winning more than expected this year including a win that he isn't expected to get then it once again comes down to a make or break 3rd season.

I hate to say it, but to me 7 wins is about best case scenario this year.

6 would make me very happy.

Well if he brings in a top 5 class then there will be a TON of young talent on the field next year that people would be excited about.

This process is completely different than Dooley's.

Butch has a winning history to fall back on and it looks like he may have elite recruiting to fall back on as well.

Also I bet Butch won't have rotating staffs every offseason.

I'm not picking a fight with HG, nor am I trying to encourage ganging up on him, because I always respect his posts. However, saying Muschamp only had 2 months to keep together Florida's class and add to it is like saying Hugh Hefner and Austin Powers only have 2 months to encourage guests to attend their party at the Playboy Mansion. Hell, all the guests need to know is the directions to the mansion; they don't care who's residing over party festivities. Boobies are sure to be there no matter what.

To your point, HG, he only took 20 though. So I understand what you're saying. And I doubt you'd disagree with me that Florida is an easier recruiting job.

Yeah, they better win while they can this year. Having a brand new OLine next year doesn't look promising.

For sure. UF should be able to recruit a Top 10 every year, but my point was about trying to close players in a month that staff had no relationship with. While other programs had a 1+year head start. Both walked into a lockeroom and PR mess; a roster with some talent but more questions how they fit the system and depth. The only real difference was Meyer went 6-6 during the season. jmo

There might have been "some" talent in Knoxville but definitely more than "some" in Gainesville. This has been our world for the last 6 years with 4 different HC during that time span. Having to hand out business cards before recruiting a player was and is SOP.

Not that anyone doubts it now, but firing Dooley was absolutely the right move.

This year would have maxed 7 wins, with another 5-7 being more likely. Then, huge rebuilding the next year. His record after 5 years would still be below .500

Ain't nobody got time for that

Don't even want to hear that little pussy pitch about how "it was so hard on Muschamp his first recruiting cycle coming in with one month to go", GIVE ME A BREAK.

You can sit there and smirk all you want because you know just like I do, the talent in FL, the appeal of UF and the success YOUR program has had will ALWAYS bring in talent.

UT has had bad decision after decision as a program, leaving us with where we are now.

If CBJ is going to do this thing, he is going to have to use whatever magic he has in his sleeve to pull off some mighty huge upsets given our talent gap compared to the SEC. I am optimistic we can win 6 games and pull a top 9 recruiting class.

CBJ is pulling in talent Dooley should have had there the last 3 years. Things are looking encouraging with this new recruiting class. I am utterly stunned we are in it with such top talent, but Freshmen rarely contribute Day 1.

Watch out with UT, because when this program brings in top talent, and starts winning again, it's not going to be a doorstep for these other programs, including UF.

You don't say.

We NEED to make a bowl game this year! The time between seasons without one seems a million times longer haha

if our D can be competent (not great) and we find a QB who can make some plays I am optimistic about what we can do this year

i am certainly not ready to throw in the towel on 2014 as well - we don't know how many OL we will lose at this point after 2013 - if we do lose all 5 starters we will have some guys with several years in the program who can step in unlike what happened under dools where we started 4 frosh OL - a system and a coach can win you a lot of games and we do still have a lot of guys on our roster who were highly recruited

we have as good an OL as you will find in the country and could start a 4star kid at every position on defense - i know stars don't mean everything but a lot of other big time schools were recruiting all these players - i just think a really good coach will be able to find enough on this roster to compete

i think all of us tend to under-believe b/c we just went through dooley - but typically the really good coaching hires make an impact in year 1 or 2 - i am hopeful that CBJ will be one of these hires
