Ya yall gave us maggit

If you are claiming Maggitt as a win. Muschamp only had a month to recruit the kid...much like Butch coming in trying to get Ramsey and Bell. That falls on the last staff and you are kidding yourself if you think Maggitt was anywhere but UF if Meyer was there.

Fire Muschamp he lost a recruiting battle to Derek Dooley. :)

Pretty cool answer from Paul. I asked him all these questions, just to see what he thought.

Could either one of you guys give me a paragraph or so of how you think Butch has handled UT so far?

What was your initial reaction when you figured out he had been hired?

After the introductory Press Conference, how much did your tune change of him?

Butch seems like a man who can do no wrong at UT right now, could you tell me a couple things that you would like to see different about him?

When Butch made the statement "we will have the best staff in America"... do you guys believe that still holds true?

Since he has been at UT, have you actually even heard anything negative about him?

And lastly, Biggest similarity and difference between Butch and Dooley so far?

Thanks guys.

My initial reaction was, 'Interesting.' The reason I said that was because of his lack of ties to the SEC and lack of name recognition in the recruiting world. I thought Hart was going to get an SEC guy because he's an SEC guy at an SEC school. But, look at Saban and Meyer. Each didn't have any SEC experience and I'd say that worked out well. I am a big picture guy so I didn't want to pass judgement and still don't. He hasn't coached a game. (He's recruited better early on than I thought.)

Nothing changed in my opinion of him. Good press conference, but so was Dooley's. Though the only mistake he made was the best staff quote. Thought it was just something people could always slap back in his face.

Honestly, I'm not sure there's a big thing I could see him doing better. He's recruiting very well right now, this spring has gone well from getting the guys to buy in, the alumni and fans seemed excited and the former players are buying in and that's helping on the recruiting trail as we've seen. It will continue to help.

I think this staff works very, very well together and they understand the expectations of Jones and how everything is supposed to work. They seem like a very cohesive unit. Now, I can look around the country and show you staffs that have had more success and lots of longevity. It's too early to well whether he has the best staff in America and I'd say he probably doesn't, but they work very, very well together or have thus far.

You hear something negative about everyone.

I can't draw any real deep similarities off the top of my head. I think the biggest is the personal recruiting Butch does. Dooley was much more of a manager or recruiting coordinator type of guy when it came to the board and who was a take, etc., but he didn't do a ton of personal recruiting. Butch does a lot. From writing letters, to talking on the phone or facebook, whatever. He's always working the recruiting trail it seems.

On a side note, and I do this in fairness to everyone, but I hope that people don't take the great momentum the Vols have right now on the recruiting trail and in other areas to believe this is a quick fix. It's not. Reality is this team is 16-21 the past three season and lost a lot of talent from last season, a lot.

After this season the Vols will lose the starting offensive and defensive line, plus three more d-linemen, starting linebackers, likely 3 out of the first 5, or more. It's a multi-year rebuilding process and I hope that people don't expect a ton of wins this season and maybe even next looking at just how the dice is falling. And that doesn't mean an SEC championship in year 3. I know people point to Saban at Bama, Chizik at Auburn, Meyer at Florida, etc. in saying year 2 you should have it rolling. All those situations are vastly different than this one. I would just hope people have some patience for Jones and his crew because like I said, they seem to be heading in the right direction four months into the job.

Ok, that's all I have.

I know it's true, but good grief... how long have we been saying this?

Nice, LP.

Fist-pump-baby will never get old.

I think, with our current personnel and the fact we'll be breaking in a new QB, this will make the transition over the CBJ's offense much easier and the offense much more efficient.

There will be growing pains, no doubt, but nothing in the sense that our D had last year....seems like this group of coaches are really emphasizing teaching the offense.

Great concept, teaching. Not one of SS' strong points.

Completely off subject but I'm contemplating moving to the Broward / Dade Co. area...any advice?

Agree w/ HG, better to stay north. Not sure what your budget or choice of location (seaside or inland) are, here are some add'l suggestions...

Weston, Parkland, and Boca Raton.

You seriously comparing fl's situation to tge one ut's been in?

You may be more delusional than most ut fans are.

Buy a house away from the beach - the storm surge does a lot more damage than the wind typically. When one comes, board up the windows & GTFO early so you're not caught up in traffic.

I agree. Buy a house a bit inland and also buy a generator. The worst part, if you avoid the storm surge, is often power outage. Not deadly for most people but having no way to have a fan or window AC in Florida in August or any extended period is not fun.

I feel bad for anyone who expects us to be really successful this coming season. They are probably those that are taking the spring practice reports way too literally, possibly being naive.

This team has a lot of work to do ahead, and I'm just glad they seem to have the right mentality.

We're not that far off in talent from the SEC big dogs. In fact, I'd say we're probably dead even with USCe, and still ahead of Mizzou, MSU, Vandy, Kentucky, and Ole Miss (despite their monster class this year).

I recognize that quality depth is extremely important in college football, but I'm really sick of hearing that a team can't even be remotely competitive in its division or conference until it has had 4-5 top 10 recruiting classes.

It doesn't always work that way. Fulmer had teams that were the equivalent of LSU/Bama talent and underachieved like crazy, including losses to Vandy and Wyoming. On the other hand, Louisville just whipped Florida's ass.

If the players buy in and this coaching staff's schemes work, the results will start THIS YEAR. We may not win 10 games, but 7-8 wins isn't out of reach at all.

These few fans need to get on board the BIG ORANGE is coming, and some on here cant stand it, I dont understand why people are not on board, Butch will bring the BIG ORANGE NATION SEC AND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in the years ahead, WE ARE COMING AND COMING FAST.:peace2:

I'd be willing to bet its the younger generation refusing to get behind the program until they see results. You see...these youngsters lack perspective, they can't see the big picture and don't truly understand how college football works. I could be wrong, but by reading your posts I'm assuming you're from the old school like me. See, some of us are old enough to have watched Bama, Texas, Notre Dame, USC, LSU, UGA, Penn State, Oklahoma, and Miami go thru down times. Hell, Oklahoma's program was off the freaking chain back in the day....Jamel Holloway and crew slapping hoes around, I mean those dudes were gettin it out there. You see, they're to young to understand that it's simply been our turn to suck for a while. It happens to everyone, it's a part of college football. Just gotta deal with it until things turn around. And all indicators point towards that happening soon.

Preach Rev Rich!
50 here. Coach Battle was in charge when I became a Volunteer :hi:

I promise you all if Butch has us in the top 5 to 10 recruiting all season long while we are having tough results on the field, people will be MUCH more patient with him.

The good things is it seems like the coaches are being honest with their reports throughout spring practice so far. While most of it is coach speak, you repeatedly hear that they're making progress but still have a long way to go.

This year is going to be another rough year with the schedule we have.

You may be more delusional than most ut fans are.

Meyer walked away leaving Muschamp with less than 2 months to NSD to keep a class together and fill 5-7 more slots. UF only took 20 kids that cycles but had room for 28. Not much different in the mess both walked into.

Dooley's first two classes were top 12, right?

All the feel good that Jones is enjoying right now will dry up in an instant if he doesn't get results early. It may not with you... but for a large mass of UT fans it will. I am willing to look at progress that has not produced wins but there are many who are not. Those people buy tickets, make donations, etc.

I have also noticed that the more negative a UT fan is... even if they aren't being reasonable... the more noise they make.
