:yuck:  :jpshakehead:
learning a system has nothing to do with not being able to lay a finger on TEs in 5 yard, one on one tackling drills.

I read some tweets of Fugate being physical in tackling drills, and the first vid I see of him on VQ was Brendon Downs Mauling and completely trucking him...

I never can and never will take these "spring heroic reports" seriously

No one should.

If you take spring practice reports as gospel, you're in for rude awakenings. Spring practice reports are always hyped-up, especially by the recruiting sites. It generates interest. I think it's great, but people need to step back to reality.

Our LB group is not good outside of AJ, IMO. If we want to start holding UT to a higher standard, then pretending as if Fugate, Harris, Sapp, and Propst are all of a sudden going to ge tthe job done at a high SEC level needs to stop.

So you are saying his coaching tenure was a sabotage job as well? Wasn't alive then. Wasn't he pretty mediocre?

Wasn't alive either, but I know he took over after Doug dickey bailed on us. He continued his success for a few years before slipping into mediocrity, paving the way for Johnny majors to come home.

I didn't know he played there. Little before my time. I wonder how the bammer fans are taking this hire.

I would assume they think it's a reasonably good hire. He's been a member of many of their boards for a while and he has been an extremely successful businessman since his coaching career ended. He founded the collegiate licensing company.

I don't expect miracles on D this season. I just want them to play to the best of their abilities and tackle well. They can improve to a top 50 D with the talent they have in a simplified 4-3/nickel/dime if they will learn to take the proper angles and tackle well. No offense is going to be able to move the combination of Big Dan and Mo up the middle very far. With AJ roaming the middle we are good. It's the edges and defensing the pass. That's what it has been for several years now. Time for those seniors to play like they are bonafide SEC players on the edges against both the run and with the pass rush. The can play a two deep zone in the secondary if the match ups are bad at corner and contain the opponents to limit scoring.

If the D improves to top 50 and the O can score even at 80% (one less TD) of last season the team will probably win 2-3 more games. That's a take in a transition year.

Coach Azz making Young Paul Harris wear 91 rather than 1 at practice because he said something along the lines of him "not practicing worthy of wearing the number 1"

I like it.
