The Bruce Pearl Thread

Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Sure it's that simple. Pearl admitted he lied. The NCAA cannot prove the others on your list have lied. They may suspect, maybe 100% believe, they lied, but they can only act on what they can prove. With Pearl, they didn't have to prove it, he admitted it.

This is a little bit beside your point, but the NCAA had proof that Pearl lied whether he admitted it or not. I'm sure people in this thread are going to act like he's a hero for admitting to anything at all, but they had pictures of his house and he tried to say he didn't recognize the location.

I hate how Pearlophiles act like we were Austin Peay until The Tan Man showed up.

UT went to the NCAA tournament every year under Jerry freaking Green. The only new accomplishment under Pearl was the Elite 8 run, which would've instead been an unceremonious first round exit if not for a fluke hot shooting performance by Melvin Goins.

Well whatever it was, we got to the Elite 8, something we had never done before.

I will say however most of Pearl's other teams in the NCAAT played rather badly.

I need to apologize for the way I was posting in this thread earlier. Sorry TOP and Ed. I was frustrated with something else and let it get to me on this board.

Please accept my apologies.

No harm, no foul.
I've had worse things said to me; I have a wife.
We Vol fans all say things out of frustration that we normally wouldn't, especially after losing in anything to Alabama.

You're crazy if you think most of his postseason teams played as well as they did in the regular season.

His first team was wildly overseeded at #2, but they barely beat #15 seed Winthrop and lost to Wichita St. in the round of 32.

His second team played pretty well but of course blew a 20 point lead to Ohio St.

His third team, his best record-wise struggled their first 2 games and got destroyed by Louisville.

His fourth team lost in the first round to Oklahoma St.

His fifth team played very well, the Elite 8 team.

His last team got destroyed by Michigan. I think we can agree that was not very good.

I'm sorry, I guess you enjoyed Buzz ball...they were going nowhere...Jerry freaking Green was long gone, completely irrelevant to 2005. Also, #1 Ranking, consistent S16 appearances, couple of 2 seeds, completely put us back on the map and in a huge way.

Jerry Green was a terrible coach. He pretty much benefited from O'Neil's recruiting and having great athletes. I still can't stand him for the meltdown in 2000 against UNC. That UT team should have been a Final Four team.

I consider going to the tournament 6 straight years a great accomplishment, no matter the results.

C. Martin is way over his head in the SEC imo. We will never be any better than we are now with him as the UT coach nice guy but outcoached several times this year. Look at the difference when Bruce was here not even close. I say bring back Bruce ASAP jmo

CCM's first team made the NIT.

His second team most likely made the NIT

He is going into a make-or-break third season.

Even if CCM turns out to be a good coach, he will never be as good as Pearl. So why are people so against the idea of bringing him back?
