Why were Catholic Priest allowed to marry for centuries then all of a sudden it was wrong?

EDIT: The CC was actually following the teaching of the Bible then pushed it to the side.

Bible teaches that Jews are God's chosen people? Christian churches believe this.

Christians accept Jesus as the messiah. Jews do not. Other than that, they should be somewhat similar. But there are critical differences.

Jews worship a single, almighty deity. Christians worship a triune god.

Jews do not teach hellfire doctrine. Christians do.

How are God's chosen people so vastly different?

The Bible was written by man, and last I checked man was not perfect. People a lot more religious than me sat around and prayed/meditated about it and came to the conclusion that a priest should devote his life to the church and if someone wants to devote their life to the church and raise a family, they can become Deacons. It's called the "mystery of faith". I doubt God will punish a priest for not marrying when/if they devoted their life to spreading His word

I don't see how it would result in abandonment of confessor confidetiality. If it is proven that the spouse, doctor, or lawyer actively covered up a crime, they would be just as culpable.

And I will freely admit that I am bias in this case. I simply don't equate a doctor, lawyer, or spouse privacy with that of a clergy. I find all of the former more useful and tangible than the latter.

It's the word of God when it makes sense, and the word of man when it doesn't. Is that the way it works?

Yea. It's called the mystery of faith. God gave us puzzle pieces, and the bible has many pieces. Unfortunately some pieces are missing. That's why God gave us the ability to reason so we could come up with some of our own ideas on how to run a church

If He wanted us to be robots and follow one thing, he would have done exactly that

That sure is an interesting, omnipotent and omnibenevolent God. I love how such an entity would create such a puzzle with possible horrible consequences for his children which he loves so dearly and who are able to doubt and thinking critically.

Simple answer. The Christian Churches are New Testament Churches. They believe Christ fulfilled the prophesies of the Old Testament and moved us from the law to grace. The Jewish Religion does not adhere to the New Testament as they do not view Christ as the messiah.

I am not sure it is derived from omnipotence but it is often used with omnipotence because the Christian God is suppose to be omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent.

Such a notion leads to the the Epicurean paradox.

Yes sir the Bible was written by men, inspired by God.


Priest were allowed to be married for centuries. The Bibles says a bishop ( priest) should be the husband of one wife. Then some old men meet at a council and decides God no longer approves of priest being married.
Yep that makes it okay with God.

What evidence do you have that any man that sat at this council is more religious than you or anyone else?

These men were appointed by the Church to their positions, does that make their actions Holy?

Are we to accept any changes that has been made at these councils?

There is only one thing to follow and that is Christ. It is a simple way. One must be saved by the Grace of God to enter the gates of heaven. It does not matter if you are rich or poor, black, white, red, brown, male or female. There is one way and one way only to heaven and that is by the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

If your whole religion is based on men who are "inspired" by God, then the Bible is no more holy/pious than those councils or any other man who is "inspired" by God.

I'm sorry but if I think real hard about God. Would he really think the Catholic Church has got it right? If so, we all die and go to hell. What a bummer

Catholic Church does not hold to sola fidelis. Non-Christians can go to heaven according to the Church.

But they do teach purgatory, (which is a money grab, and hellfire.) Hard to believe in a God that loves unconditionally but still finds a way to set people on fire.

And, there are also Church Doctors who have professed that only diabolically evil beings end up in hell and that there are no diabolically evil beings. Thus, there are no souls in hell.
