Did Clowney have a choice about staying?

I think we can beat USCjr this year. Maybe UGA too, since they lost so many players to the NFL. Their D will be hurting big time.

Good point. I think that is largely due to the continuity with the new staff. Most of them have been together for years, so they clearly have faith in their methods and ability to teach the O/D to the team. They've been thru this process with a new team before, I like the confidence and I hope the team responds big time.

im guessing its Clowney. He just signed a 5 million dollar insurance policy in case he gets injured and it affects him being drafted. He wanted to go this year but theres a rule in the NFL that you have to be removed from high school for 3 years before you can move to the NFL

I heard that too...says he possibly would sit out this year? I guess the Lattimore injury would make you stop and think..

No, he's already said via twitter that he's playing next season. Still, it's something to think about. Clowney stands to make a lot of money in the NFL.

I def think we have a good shot at s car. Especially since they're several weeks into
the season. So we have time to adjust to the new staff. Wins over s car and aub are the easiest path to 8 wins. IMO

Definitely not predicting a win, but I think the schedule sets up nicely for UT against both Georgia and USCe. UGA plays LSU the week before us, while we play South Alabama. Then we get a Bye week before the USCe game, while they have to go to Arkansas.

Georgia's early schedule is every bit as brutal as ours. They could come to Knoxville at 1-3. However, they could also come in 4-0 and ranked in the Top 3 in the country.

If he didn't want to play there is not a damn thing Spurrier could do to stop him. Clowney is pretty much guaranteed a 20 millionish contract next year even with sitting out, so even if his scholarship was pulled and he wanted to continue attending college the $11,000 tuition for a year would be nothing.

Clowney could still bail and be the first pick.

Granted I'm not sure if he needs to be a certain age vs class credentials.

But I'm sure he would find a way out if he wanted to.
