V Bell's coach on Ainge's show this morning

the coach at UT was not in contact with him throughout the entire process. Meanwhile the coach at OSU was in constant contact and even traveled to many of his HS games.

30 days right before NSD wasn't enough for CBJ to overcome a 13-14 month relationship with Meyer.

"relationship with Meyer" sounds a bit icky...

Then I'm not sure he was ever that "grew up a Vol fan" guy we all heard about then. I know what would've been in my heart.

Still comes down to the NC in two years, and plus he was a HS kid having a blast getting the rock star treatment here at the end... All IMHO.

While I agree that DD didn't pursue him enough, it's illogical to blame it on DD. CUM came to the party relatively late too. Bell said he only has 4 years and the condition of OSU program under Meyer is a known entity while UT is still behind in winning games, going to bowl games and possible national championships. Bottom line-felt safer over the next 4 years in Columbus than in Knoxville.

I hate it but I think that's the deal.

I'm glad Vonn was able to choose the school he wanted to attend. Having said that, I don't understand the "chance at a NC sooner" argument. When Dooley was fired OSU was the better team and still is. Nothing changed. Vonn would have had many less people upset with him if he had just told Butch no thanks. He didnt have to visit even if Butch continued to call him. He didnt have to string along our fans until NSD. He chose to do that so people are going to be upset.

I say good luck to the kid, unless he plays us, but don't throw some lame excuse why you didnt choose to attend UT. Man up and tell the truth.

I apologize if this has already been covered but what was REALLY going on with DD and his staff? It seems like he practically ran his entire staff off at one point and then just quit recruiting about mid season. Does anyone have the scoop on what really went down?

I am not originally from TN but ever since I moved here I would consider myself a VFL. My first game was TN beating AL. I dont care about the excuses by VB but if a true UT fan and was offered a chance to play for UT, I would not care what others are selling. Running through the Power T, singing Rocky Top, hearing the crowd at Neyland Stadium....can't be beat. I dont care about a business deal. Yes it seems Dooley failed us again. With that being said, lets celebrate with the ones who chose us and are passionate about being a VFL!

Vonn said in an interview with Fox Sports Next that he could't wait 2 years to win a national championship. He felt like OSU will win sooner.

They will have to put all of the SEC teams on probation before Ohio state can win the NC!

The coach said going to osu was a business decision? BS. After college or the NFL a player still has a life. Being loved by the state school of your home state means valuable contacts for that time. Contributing to a school from another state is nowhere near as useful.
lol, so people who go to schools in another state can't make contacts? yeah ok.

sounds like a disappointed UT fan to me.

You realize that the whole narrative changes if you just take the kid at his word that he would have liked to come to UT and it was a difficult decision. If you just spot him a little bit of "good faith," then it all makes sense. He didn't intentionally do anything to UT except give us a chance. Why is it necessary to assume that we "got played" or "got strung along" or whatever? Moreover, what damage did he do? It's not like we turned down (or didn't pursue) some other kid because we thought Vonn Bell was committed here. Some of you people are making no sense.

Anyone else want to punch Dooley dead in the face for every little cute quip he made?

BS! it wasn't a "business decision" It was a 17 year old prima donna pouting because CDD sucked and didn't pay him enough attention. This was "crybaby payback" period...cutting his nose off to spite his face. Brilliant. Now he's going to be a long way from home, on a team that's on probation, that gets ***** slapped by the SEC on a regular basis.

Eric Berry had no problem being highly drafted for NFL and he had to deal with all the downs of Tennessee coaching changes. I think he feels that Ohio State will win a championship (or Alabama) before the Vols do. Nothing against him, but I hope we can win one, while he's on the outside looking in.

I just don't agree that OSU offers a much greater chance of getting to the pros. If you're good enough, they'll find you. For instance, Patterson only played 1 year in the NCaa with a bad team and he'll go higher than any OSU player.

Now, I do think there are plenty of valid reasons to pick OSU over UT right now but the whole "it's a business decision" is a BS cliché.

Exactly how I feel. In an article today he mentioned the NFL as a goal and that he thought he would be starting as a sophomore at OSU. He would start as a freshman at UT. I would think that would help him get to the NFL even better.
