Yes I would.

Cutcliffe isn't coming back as OC. Fulmer's recruiting is what got us in this mess in the first place. I know you love him, but he is not the answer here.

I'm not going to get in the Fulmer debate b/c it's been discussed over & over on here since 2008 but I completely disagree w/ you.

Raheem Morris, Jack Del Rio, Josh McDaniels, and Greg Roman need to be called. Hart and his BS search party(which is him) is terrible. I'm done playing around. Offer them 3 to 3.5 million and let's see what happens.

If you don't like Jim Chaney then you would hate Josh McDaniels.

It is kind of a shame that if hired a lot of the fan base would judge Butch Jones only on losing to Dooley last season.

Also, the McIntyre guy intrigues me for some reason. I don't know that much about him, but his name seems to get kicked around quite a bit. Anyone know much about him?

Some college names that may or may not get a look, but worth mentioning include:

* Paul Rhodes - HC Iowa State - not a sexy name, but he is a fine coach and gets lot out of his talent.
* James Franklin - HC Vanderbilt - signed his extension last week, but if you want the right man, spend the cash and get him. Hoe Run Hire IMO.
* Bill O'Brien - HC Ped State - may have a high cost buyout, but again, if you want the right man, pay to get him. Home Run Hire IMO
* Al Golden - HC Miami - is overlooked because he is at Miami and his overall record is not good. he is a rising star in the business.
* Butch Jones - HC Cincinnati - Has followed Brian kelly around and won with Kelly's men. Is he good enough to rebuild?
* Paul Chryst - HC Pittsburgh - Young and learning, but bright future.
* Justin Wilcox - DC Washiington - Up and comer. Would bring Peter Sirmon with him.
* Bob Shoop - DC - Vanderbilt - Up and comer with bright future.
* John Pease - OC Florida - up and comer with bright future.
* Mike McIntyre - HC San Jose State - former SEC coach and NFL coach. Would surprise folks with his intensity and work ethic.

Paul Rhodes is the best coach on this mediocre list. Bill O'Brien would be second but these guys aren't what UT needs. And they aren't anywhere near homerun hires. Hell Al Golden's teams look like Dooley's on the field(all offense).

James Franklin can coach Vandy not UT. The defensive coordinator is the best coach in Nashville. Even he needs to be hired away from Vandy at the same position for UT.

Florida's offensive coordinator has proven absolutely nothing. I would go after the D-coordinator before the OC of Florida.

Butch Jones needs to be Cincy's coach not the coach of UT. Dooley outsmarted/outcoached him with similar talent.

Did Wilcox make this list? For what reason again? He didn't impress in two years of being at UT. Didn't identify SEC talent well either while he was here. Plus he doesn't like to recruit at a place that needs a recruiter as a head coach.

SN: I agree James Franklin is a Hoe Run Hire. :)

this academics thing is a convenient excuse and nothing more - it didnt keep Lane Kiffin from taking the job, regardless of what you think of him he was a hot hire at the time

we also just last year let in a 4 star guy that florida denied admission - we also let in cordorralle who was not an academic heavyweight - we are letting guys in that are borderline - saying anything otherwise just isnt looking at the facts

100% TRUTH

everyone involved with Tennessee has developed this unmitigated fear of an unseen boogie man that just doesnt exist.

there is always a need to blame our failures on someone or something.

not just the fans, its everyone involved.

we just do not have the right people in position. it is painfully obvious

Just curious, we do peopleseem to like Roman better than Taggart? They are from the same coaching tree, but Taggart actually has experience and success as a college head coach and recruiter. It seems like I keep seeing Roman listed but not Taggart.

Perception (rightly or wrongly) is the majority of it. UT fans would much rather have the OC of the 49ers than the HC at WKU. I think either one would be a solid to really good hire.

Is Davis really interested in taking a job at 61?

And is he being investigated by the NCAA over the UNC mess? If so, I can't see Hart hiring him when we wouldn't let Strong bring Hurtt with him.

I can't say I know a ton abou Davis. It seems like he's done a good job building teams though.

Maybe this article will help someone in their time of need out there in Volnation land.

Long coaching searches can be successful ones

Posted by: Chris Vannini on December 6, 2012

With news that Charlie Strong has turned town Tennessee to stay at Louisville, Volunteer fans are starting to panic
that they won't get a good coach.

Tennessee fired Derek Dooley on Nov. 18, and it has been 18 days without a permanent head coach.

But there is no need to get angry or worried yet. Plenty of recent coaching searches have taken weeks and resulted
in good hires. You can miss on some guys, but you can't miss the right guy. Here are some recent coaching searches
that took a long time, but resulted in success.

Texas A&M (9 days): Mike Sherman fired on Dec. 1, 2011 - Kevin Sumlin hired on Dec. 10.

Most expected the Aggies to struggle in their first season in the SEC. But with one of the top offenses in the nation,
Texas A&M went 10-2, including a win at Alabama, and earned a Cotton Bowl berth.

Arizona State (17 days): Dennis Erickson fired on Nov. 28, 2011 - Todd Graham hired on Dec. 14

The Sun Devils went 7-5 in Graham's first season this year, finishing the regular season on a two-game winning streak.

Tulane (48 days): Bob Toledo resigned on Oct. 18, 2011 - Curtis Johnson hired on Dec. 5

The school was getting hammered by fans and media for the length of this search, but 99 percent of Tulane fans will
tell you they have the right guy. The Green Wave went 2-10 this season, but some great recruiting classes and a
new stadium are on the way.

Vanderbilt (20 days): Robbie Caldwell resigned on Nov. 27, 2010 - James Franklin hired on Dec. 17

Vandy has had one of the greatest two-year stretches in school history, including an 8-4 record in 2012 with a 5-3
record in the SEC.

UCLA (12 days): Rick Neuheisel fired on Nov. 28, 2011 - Jim Mora Jr. hired on Dec. 10

The Bruins went 9-4, winning the Pac-12 South and ending a long losing streak against USC in their first season
with Mora, who had never been a college head coach.

Michigan (7 days): Rich Rodriguez fired on Jan. 4, 2011 - Brady Hoke hired on Jan. 11

Although the search lasted a week, the school reportedly missed on some other candidates before hiring Hoke.
The Wolverines won 11 games, including the Sugar Bowl, in 2011.

Fresno State (10 days): Pat Hill fired on Dec. 4, 2011 - Tim DeRuyter hired on Dec. 14

In his first season replacing one of the best coaches in school history, DeRuyter led the Bulldogs to a 9-3 record,
including 7-1 in the Mountain West.

San Jose State (31 days): Dick Tomey announced retirement on Nov. 16 - Mike MacIntyre hired on Dec. 17, 2009

MacIntyre took over one of the worst programs in FBS, going 1-12 in his first season, but has turned things around,
going 10-2 in 2012.

do you really want to know the answer to that question?

Maybe not.

I just know I'd prefer a successful small school head coach over a 2 year NFL OC when they are going to come in and run essentially the same system. JMO.

That being said, I'm not opposed to Roman.

I find it funny Kiffin was recruiting like a madman here but now all this administration crap is the problem. People with these BS excuses are hilarious.....

"You look at those jobs, but I have a great job here," Strong said. "I have a great person that I work for, and I think that's what it comes down to. When you talk to an athletic director it's more about not only your job, but it's about your family and caring about your family. When they ask about your daughters, that's when you know they care more about you as a person."

From the ESPN article per Chris Low. By quoting that statement in the arcticle, it seems like an implication that Hart did not go a good job making a pitch, or UT has some administrative issues in general.

However, if Cheek is the main problem then Kiffin was hired before Cheek (November 2008 vs. February 2009) and I wonder if some of the same problems would have arisen if Kiffin were still here.

This is not an excuse for what is currently going on, but I am just throwing it out there..

Davis cleaned up the Miami program and had it set up for NC runs ina few years, then went to NC and has been cleared in all their academic NCAA problems. I think when we get to where we are, he is about as good as we could hope for. He also announced this morning he is now not going to take the FIU job so he is available.

Hubbs said Pelini reached out to express interest in the job last night, & also there is a rumor going around about Rich Rod that he is trying to chase down.
