Jones has been holding out for the plum job. He has turned down Purdue and Colorado that we know of. The wrd is that he has been angling at the Tennessee and Wisconsin jobs.

You know at this point I never thought I would say this, but Jones would be better than some that are out there.

I agree with babyavi... If academics are still that big of issue then good luck finding anybody besides on up-and-comer who UT takes a chance on.

I would love to see a Raheem Morris or Greg Roman, but are they going to leave the NFL for a college job where they aren't sure they can get the players to compete?

With that said, I can't imagine that the academics are that big of a hold up. For example, UT somehow got CP into school and let Phillips in when he supposedly couldn't get into UF. There is something else going on here....

IMO Butch is a Good Candidate.

I agree. He seems like the only one who wants the job too.

After Hart is done with this charade, he should be fired and Fulmer should be brought in as AD. Phil would know how to knock heads with the nerds at UT and do what needs to be done to bring UT back on a level playing field with the rest of the SEC.

Phillips was admitted per the NCAA, he took classes at a known "diploma mill" so Florida's admissions declined him. Tennessee took him because the NCAA clearing house had already cleared him.

We talking about butch jones or davis??

Thoughts on both??

I think people need to take some steps back - does it seem like a cluster you know what - yes - that being said sometimes in life and sports the best decisions are the ones you don't make

Nnamdi Asomugha was a huge miss for jerry jones and the cowboys - later i don't think anyone wants him for that contract

UCLA hired last this past year - and Mora seems like the best hire of the year, getting them into the conference championship game

charlie weiss seemed like the sure thing huge hire for notre dame

just b/c other dominoes fell first does not mean we won't get a great coach - and also the guy that looks like the no brainer day 1 is not necessarily who will be great long term

I've been saying since day 1 that Dave Hart was a complete joke, hope people are finally starting to see that. David Blackburn should have got the job over Hart. But Cheek is also to blame for a lot of this mess, leadership starts at the top & from the top to Hart it's a complete joke & embarrasment to the University & the fan base.

At this point we are back to square 1, for me the names I call & go after are: Greg Roman, Jim Mora Jr., & Bo Pelini.

If those guys tell you no then for all things holy please do not settle for a mid-tier conference coach that hasn't proven s*** like we did w/ Dooley.

Want a coach w/ integrity, a coach that will represent this school & program the right way, a coach that will embrace our traditions, a coach that has proven his worth in the SEC, then you bring back Phillip Fulmer right now!! He's 62, likely has 5-7 good years left, let him come back put a good foundation back w/ this program before it gets any worse. He'd get us back to winning 8-9 games a year at least. Bring MY coach back, the coach I grew up knowing as Tennessee football.

I'd much rather do that than hire a unproven winner to a ridiculious contract like we did w/ Dooley & be f***** once again 3-4 years from now.

1. I don't think this rests on Hart's lap as much as it does Jimmy Cheek. If he's as much a part of this as it's been speculated, then that's a 180 from what Hubbs predicted would happen. I've RARELY if ever read anything positive about Cheek and if HALF of it is true, the guy needs to be gone tomorrow. I admire his goal of improving academics but it CANNOT be at the expense of athletics.

2. Completely agree with you about Fulmer. Yes, his last few years were sub-par for him, but at this point, we can do a whole helluva lot worse than the second best coach this University has had.

3. I can't believe I wrote #2....but this is what it has come to. Fulmer would get the band back together and, IMO, come back with a sh*t load to prove. I'll take a revitalized and determined Phillip Fulmer over an experimental HC any day of the week.

Don't get caught up in settling for a coach because you think he would take the job. Let's be smart and patient and get a guy who will improve the program.

There has been talk of looking at NFL guys. The problem you have with them, is that none of them would leave their teams until they finished the season. You remedy that by hiring recruiters into the staff immediately and using the NFL coaching/preparation angle with recruits.

Some names that could fit in that mix would be:
* Greg Roman - former Stanford assistant coach and current 49ers OC
* Jack Del Rio -former Jags HC and current Broncos DC (wanted LSU job a few years back)
* Mike Sherman - former Texas A&M HC and Green Bay Packers HC, and current Dolphins OC
* Jim Leavitt - Current NFL assistant and former USF HC- might be a good guy to tak=lk to.
* Josh McDaniels - former KC Chiefs HC and current Patriots OC. Young and energetic.

Lets admit that the SEC is nt for every coach and if you want long term sustainability, the ACC is an easier path to build a 9 to 10 win program and have a stable life.

We want a coach who would thrive on the challenge of the SEC...if B Jones is as interested as some say he could be an interesting fit.

Note: Jones not my first choice

Ron, is that you?

Just messing with you, buddy.

Phillips was admitted per the NCAA, he took classes at a known "diploma mill" so Florida's admissions declined him. Tennessee took him because the NCAA clearing house had already cleared him.

this academics thing is a convenient excuse and nothing more - it didnt keep Lane Kiffin from taking the job, regardless of what you think of him he was a hot hire at the time

we also just last year let in a 4 star guy that florida denied admission - we also let in cordorralle who was not an academic heavyweight - we are letting guys in that are borderline - saying anything otherwise just isnt looking at the facts

IMO Butch is a Good Candidate.

Agree on Butch. Not option unless Hart got booster to reconsider though from my intel source.
Plus he may be gone to FIU by now. Which means another coach ready to come after members of
the staff anyone hoped new guy might think about keeping.

Maybe Hart will try Mora - Butch again.
Fedora - Jones - Golden - Del Rio - McDaniels - guys you mentioned: Raheem Morris, Greg Nolan, Gref Roman, Ray Horton

Bet Hart has an ulcer by now. Needs to hurry up whoever it is.

Some college names that may or may not get a look, but worth mentioning include:

* Paul Rhodes - HC Iowa State - not a sexy name, but he is a fine coach and gets lot out of his talent.
* James Franklin - HC Vanderbilt - signed his extension last week, but if you want the right man, spend the cash and get him. Hoe Run Hire IMO.
* Bill O'Brien - HC Ped State - may have a high cost buyout, but again, if you want the right man, pay to get him. Home Run Hire IMO
* Al Golden - HC Miami - is overlooked because he is at Miami and his overall record is not good. he is a rising star in the business.
* Butch Jones - HC Cincinnati - Has followed Brian kelly around and won with Kelly's men. Is he good enough to rebuild?
* Paul Chryst - HC Pittsburgh - Young and learning, but bright future.
* Justin Wilcox - DC Washiington - Up and comer. Would bring Peter Sirmon with him.
* Bob Shoop - DC - Vanderbilt - Up and comer with bright future.
* John Pease - OC Florida - up and comer with bright future.
* Mike McIntyre - HC San Jose State - former SEC coach and NFL coach. Would surprise folks with his intensity and work ethic.

Raheem Morris, Jack Del Rio, Josh McDaniels, and Greg Roman need to be called. Hart and his BS search party(which is him) is terrible. I'm done playing around. Offer them 3 to 3.5 million and let's see what happens.

I'd like an NFL guy. McDaniels, Roman, ect...

I'm not big on Del Rio, but I wasn't big on Mora last year and you saw how that worked out. Going with a NFL coordinator might be our best bet.

I reeally hope we do not go with a retread. Fulmer, Tuberville, Bowden, ect...

None of those guys will get this program to an elite level.

I'm not the biggest Butch Jones fan, but he might be okay.
