I have to give props to Dave Hart. He is doing the search his way and with his method and timeline. If I were in charge and had this on my shoulders I think I would want to do it my way win lose or draw as well. I think we will find out he is doing the right thing whether we are too impatient right now to see it or not. Imagine if our AD did it this way three or even four years ago. Like it or not guys he is doing it his way and not wavering and you have to respect that. :hi:

I'd take Strong over Malzahn but Malzahn over Fedora and Gundy.

Malzahn is a good recruiter and he will run the ball. Pair him with a good DC and he'll do great things. He has SEC experience and success everywhere he has been.

Malzahn was greatly helped by Cam being at auburn just like Chizik was - the year after cam he had the 9th offense in the league (10th if you go by yds)

he then had 1 good year at a lower school - has 7 yrs total in coaching experience at the college level - if i were an auburn fan i would be very suspicious of this hire

College football live was taking about all the open jobs and didn't mention us but they did say they think we are close to having a coach.

Something is wrong with that statement.

Did they not mention us or did they say we are close to hiring a coach?

Most likely the best they could get right now with all of the NCAA stuff going on. He is their Dooley.

that is exactly what i think -they tried for big boys, got turned down b/c the NCAA is at their door getting ready to bring the hammer, so they took a flier on Gus

if he works out great - if he doesnt you were likely going to lose anyway b/c you are going to be on probation - get him for a low dollar buyout and when off probation go get a big time coach

I don't think thats an accurate comparison because at least Malzahn has proven that he can flat-out coach one side of the ball, Dooley never proved that.

The best part of that is the best names are still out there. Neither school's hiring hurts UT, but may help speed it up. It also tells you those schools were confident Strong was not interested in them and if Strong is looking UT seems to be the place he is headed.

Nothing to do with coaching. Its all about a job that nobody wants to touch because of the issues flying around it and they ended up on their 10th choice.

I think he may have been their only choice to keep certain staff members on board as well. Which may save the class for them.

I think Auburn trolled Bama pretty good by floating info out there that they would hire Kirby Smart away from them before the NC game.

Here's how it will go. We'll deny that we ever offered Kirby. He will make some vague statement about how he's happy at Alabama. He won't deny he got the offer. He won't confirm it either.

The rumor mill will say we offered him and he declined. It will be all over the local reports. It will become common belief that he turned us down.

When he hits the recruiting trail, he will tell kids and their parents that he turned down $3.2 million a year from AU because we are a dumpster fire/going on NCAA probation/have a bunch of skeletons in our closet. He'll use it against us on every kid they want for the next few classes. They'll humiliate us with it at every turn.

And who created this rumor...not bama. It will be our own guys. Our own AD and his cronies that floated this test balloon and never saw the other side of it coming. Self inflicted wounds.

The year after his QB was Barrett Trotter. Even a great coach can't win with an awful QB.

Obviously Malzahn isn't proven, but IMO he is better than Fedora or Gundy. I think he's a better X and O coach then either of them and possibly a better recruiter too. He did a great job at A-State getting people excited about football. This year they set records for attendence.

He wouldn't be my top choice, but you could do a lot worse.

All this stalling for Gundy is risky. Strong might lose his patience and sign for a raise with the 'Ville. I don't like it. Gundy is too expensive and I think he's trying to leverage some new powers over the Ok St program. JMO. Gundy has been way too forward and putting things out in public. Smells fishy to me...
