Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I think babyvol was accurate with his dates.

Remember wasn't it stated Hart wanted to have a legitimate interviews process? Truth is he doesn't want to be forced to do anything(ego) so silence some of the Gruden talk and let him go through his whole interview process.

Everything will work out. Only way this ends differently is if someone just blows him away and then he will have to convince the boosters aswell.

I have one question.

Isn't this the "Official Jon Gruden Thread"? Inasmuch as this is the "Official Jon Gruden Thread" can we keep the discussion on Jon Gruden rather other potential hires. Other coaching candidates can have their own threads but there shouldn't be any hijacking of this thread!

Can we get some help from the mods???

I would be careful pressing the mods, this thread has always been "off topic" of sorts and since Gruden is over and done, they are being gracious to leave it open.

Anyone know where Thunder stood on Gruden?

From what I've heard, he was partial to Fulmer. Thunder (along with the other booster from this area) is a little farther down the food chain in this deal from what I'm told.

Official from school: N.C. State hires NIU's Dave Doeren. Curious to see how he fares there. That's a decent job.

I honestly don't mind it...I pretty much never leave here now (lazy), so those are keeping me in the know.

One Stop Shopping with the Jon Gruden threads heh.

I agree that some do know outside of these circles.

...but let me say this:

I feel SORRY for them because they didn't experience the pure AWESOMENESS that was the Jon Gruden Rumor Threads.

I haven't had that much excitement since my wife agreed that we could get an Au Pair!

Haha. I won't ask further about the au pair.

Todd Howell's boy Davis broke the National HS reception record. Tremendous achievement for sure. They recruited and committed his teammate Josh Smith.

What's the difference... SPEED. Howell is 4.8 while Smith 4.5. Wouldn't surprise me to see Howell & their QB High go to Carson Newman together with their head coach.

No other major college recruited them either. I did like to watch them play tho

Sarcasm?

I wonder if an "Official Thread for those from the Gruden thread to discuss realistic coaching options" would stand or get merged?

I like the people I know here and would love to discuss things but maybe I should just stick to the football thread in recruiting.

I am not saying that Strong is my top candidate, but it is a little different selling Louisville compared to selling UT. I would not make that a deciding factor. I like Fedora but question his recruiting. I was told that Fedora was Foley's second choice after Muschamp. I think UF gets it. Strong could recruit well at UT.
I listen to these arguments as to why Strong would do better at TN, but they sound awfully close to the same things that were being said by Dooley apologists when he arrived at TN.

Strong may be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but to say coming to TN will make it all better is not reality.

Other threads are full of morons. This has been the best place for good discussion on all things it football for about a month now.

I listened to four on-air interviews with him yesterday afternoon. I have no doubt that he's telling the truth, and in no way do I think we would be "that" close to landing Gruden to have something screw it up in the end. That's like landing the biggest fish in the lake, getting it in your boat, then letting it fall back in the water trying to get the hook out of its mouth.

Purely speculation on my part, but like I said yesterday, I think his gig at ESPN has something to do with the timeline. The ups and downs from this forum sway my belief in this happening somewhat, but whenever I take a step back, use my head, look at what is (and more importantly) ISN'T being said from certain people, it just all adds up to still point to Gruden.

I have a fake side that is open to new coach ideas.

My inner gut has never let go of Gruden, for the same reasons you state. Im keeping my eyes on it.

I know Thunder is upset over the useage of the Thorton building, if he was not one of the boosters wanting Gruden, perhaps he was one of the sources to the paper there. Sure would be one way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, turn the heat up on Hart and nix the Gruden deal all at the same time.

I am not saying they have no say, and with what they do for the university they should have some say. I just think this proves they do not have the "final" say in things. There are huge boosters that were not enamored by Gruden as well. Its not like all the boosters were lined up in support of Gruden. There were several big ones that were not. They just weren't as vocal as the few that promised Gruden the world only to have Hart say "That is not possible".

What I am saying here is what I pieced together after the fact. Not trying to convince anyone, just discussing.

Having say and telling Hart he has to hire Gruden no matter how ridiculous his demands are become separate ideas. They can suggest, they can even make a move to replace Hart if they want, but they cannot force him to do anything. Ultimately it is his reputation and career on the line with his first big time football hire.

And, in return, the boosters can keep their money in their Swiss Bank Accounts and tell the AD to find their own damn money.
