Two days ago, I posted a staff breakdown of Larry Fedora's assistant coaches on page 416 of this thread at the very top. I will attempt to do the same with Charlie Strong's staff here. IMO he seems like the most logical candidate. We all know about Strong. He has coached at UF, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, USCjr, and now Louisville.
Shawn Watson - Offensive Coord & QB Coach.
Watson has previously coached at Northwestern, Colorado, Nebraska, and now Louisville. While at Nebraska, he signed Brion Carnes and Kody Green... two highly ranked QB's. He was the RC while at Nebraska also.
Vance Bedford- Defensive Coord.
Has been coaching secondaries since the late 80's. He has previously coached at Okla St, Michigan, UF, and now Louisville. He has good ties in the Michigan and and Florida areas. He took a crappy secondary at Louisville last night and made them look somewhat decent.
Kenny Carter- RB Coach & Special Teams Coach
He has previously coached at LSU, Pitt, Penn St, UF, and now Louisville. He helped sign Mike Gillislee and Xavier Nixon when he was at UF. I couldn't find out much about him. By all accounts, Jay Graham over this guy any day.
Ron Duggans- WR's Coach.
Very young coach. He started coaching in 2007 at Georgia Southern. He joined Louisville in 2010. To be honest, Hinshaw should be retained before this guy gets a job at UT.
Sherrone Moore- TE's Coach.
This guy is very very new to college coaching. He graduated from Oklahoma in 2008, then did his G.A work and this is his 1st year of coaching college football. There isn't much to go off of and he doesn't appear to be a big recruiter.
Dave Borbely- Offensive Line Coach & Run Game Coord.
He has previously coached at Stanford, Notre Dame, Virginia, and now with Louisville. IMO, he sucks at recruiting. Awful. He didn't land a single OL commit from 2009-2011. This should work out well for Pittman.
Clint Hurtt- Defensive Line Coach & RC.
He was the DL Coach at Miami from 2006-2009. He has been with Louisville ever since. He helped land the #7 ILB from last year's class.... Keith Brown. He obviously has connections in Florida. He is an outstanding recruiter. He was the lead guy in Bridgewater's recruitment. He was also "money" at Miami in recruiting when he was there.
Brian Jean-Mary- LB Coach.
He was the LB Coach at Ga Tech from 2004-2009. He was born in Apopka, FL. He is about average from what I can tell when it comes to recruiting. His LB's did a decent job last night so we will see.
Larry Slade- Secondary Coach.
He has been coaching secondaries since the mid 80's. He has coached at Washington, Maryland, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and now Louisville. While at UT, he signed Savion Frazier, Donald Langley, and Brent Vinson. I know the secondary didn't play the best last night but they tightened up in the 2nd half and forced some turnovers. They are very young in the secondary also.
Since the Gruden deal is finally confirmed, Strong is our next best candidate. I wish I was a Louisville fan because he brings a lot of emotion to the sideline. He was fist pumping and congratulating his players as they walked off the field.
One of the few things that disturbs me about Louisville is they are 10-2 with a BCS bowl now in place. Yet, they have 9 commitments and ranked #71 in the nation by Rivals. I know the guy can recruit, I hope he aligns himself with a bit different one than he has now. My vote is with Strong. Go Vols!!
