Has anyone thought that in order for Hart to truly look like he saved the day, it would have to look like it was a no go. Even to the point of people who have believed all along, losing hope. If this is the case, and Hart magically swoops in and pulls it off, he is a genius. I don't know that this happens, but think how he would look if he lets 2 or 3 days go by with everyone believing that it is a no go only to mysteriously find new money to fix the "assistants money shortage". It would look like he saved the day and he would be able to take credit for it. Maybe this is the plan all along with the help of the boosters. Only JG and Hart knows, so until they say otherwise, it's not over.

If this data is correct Gruden is asking for $2M over the top paying schools (Texas and Bama) and about double what Georiga and South Carolina are paying. Of course it's not my money, so what do I care, right? Still, seems a bit excessive, even slimy...

Not necessarily. The rumor has been that Gruden was seeking monies commensurate with NFL assistant coaches as he was leaning heavily in that direction for at least part of his staff. Do you have comparable data for NFL assistant coaches?

So, the big $ boys throw a fortune in an attempt to make this happen and then leave it all up to Hart?? Do you really believe that?

These guys are all very successful, very wealthy, pretty damn smart, influential and powerful, yet according to some of the people here, they empty the vault and then leave it up to someone else to make things happen. No freaking way they stayed on the sidelines after ponying up a small fortune. You can rest assured when the money was put up, their involvement and interest came with it.

If this thing is indeed dead, it's a pretty safe bet it was a combination of cold feet by Gruden or he kept raising the ante to the point the $ boys decided he wanted too much.

I don't think I'm the only guy here who believes the Haslems of the world will give an employee or future employee a blank check. These guys didn't get where they are by dozing under shade trees...

This absolutely blows my mind. Lord knows I've never been on the inside of a college football coaching search before, but how in the world could this possibly extend for another month? If there are major disagreements or problems, how the heck is it going to take that long to determine if they can be resolved? Especially if this has been in the works as long as some people are suggesting?

I am at a loss for words at this point. This has been a giant cluster**** from day one.

Actually, he would be mediocre at best. 3-4 years of 7 or 8 win seasons.
Most of the players wouldn't want to play for someone that they played against.
The money from boosters and fans would not be there.
And, not to mention, Vandy. Why would anyone associated with TN want something that came from there. We should want better.

LOL actually first. I dropped to 50-50 at one point when I got some negative information.

This is the first time I am saying unequivocally that I DO NOT believe even the slightest at this point that Jon Gruden will be the HEad Coach of the Vols. Straight enough for you? I am as pissed as anyone about it, but reasonable enough to see the massive amount of writing on the wall. Not a single credible person I know says it is still an option that can back it up with any specific names or information to make me believe anymore.

I am not a person wanting Franklin but compared to Strong and Fedora I can't say he is a worse option. My other point is he is paid to be loyal to Vandy and I think he would jump at a big offer from any big school, Tennessee included.

Thing is I cannot be wrong or right in any situation because I only stated what I believed to be true based on information I got. You will not find any grandiose proclamations in any of my posts on the subject.

I don't really think Hart's goal in this process is to come out looking like a genius to the point where he jerks around the entire state of Tn and Vol fans everywhere to accomplish it.
