Does anyone know the compensation that Strong/Fedora and their staffs are making?
The AD said Strong's new contract would be backdated to July 1, carrying the new contract through June 30, 2018.
Strong's original contract signed Dec. 9, 2009 included a retention bonus of $1.25 million and a $1 million annuity starting at age 65 should Strong still be the Louisville coach on June 30, 2015. Those provisions remain and additional retention bonuses of $1 million in 2016 and $200,000 in 2017 and 2018 were added if Strong remains the coach on June 30 of those years.
A sliding buyout remains in Strong's contract but has been boosted. The maximum buyout was previously $1 million and has been raised to $2.5 million should Strong terminate the contract before June 30, 2012. The minimum buyout jumps to $1 million from $200,000 if Strong were to leave in the last two years of the contract.
The University of North Carolina will pay its football coaching staff $4.07 million during its first year on the job, according to figures the university released on Monday. That includes the $2.13 million UNC will pay to head coach Larry Fedora, whom the university introduced in December as the successor to interim head coach Everett Withers.
Fedoras salary includes a one-time payment of $400,000, which the university was to provide to him by March 15, according to his contract. Blake Anderson, Dan Disch and Vic Koenning are UNCs three highest-paid assistants. They will each receive $250,000 annually.
Anderson is the Tar Heels offensive coordinator, while Disch and Koenning will lead the UNC defense. The rest of the salaries for UNCs assistants are as follows:
--Defensive line coach Deke Adams, outside linebackers/special teams coach David Duggan and running backs coach Randy Jordan: $185,000.
--Passing game coordinator/receivers coach Gunter Brewer: $175,000.
--Head strength and conditioning coach Lou Hernandez: 140,000.
--Tight ends coach Walt Bell: $80,000.
According to USA Todays college football coaches salary database, UNCs total staff salary of $4.07 million would have ranked sixth among ACC public schools during the 2011 season. Those rankings could change this season because of raises and changes in coaching staffs, among other possible factors.
Coach Strongs deal was expanded through the 2017 season (ends June 30, 2018) and raised his pay from $1.6 Million to $2.3 Million. According to the Public Employee Database for the state of Kentucky Louisville Footballs total Staff (including Coach Strongs salary) the total pool of cash is around $5.8 Million (I calculated $5,718,969 exactly, according to the 2011 database).
I would like to see Strong I think with a heavy hitter OC and DC who can provide the X and O to his recruiting. Assistants I would want solid coaches but some go getter ace recruiters who can get Strong in the door and seal the deal.
Chavis was a solid DC who was a horrible recruiter as well as Cut. That scenario worked well for Fulmer when he put out the effort and I think it could work for Strong as well.
You do know Charlie was a stud DC at Florida and has improved Louisville dramatically since he got there. (On the defensive side of the ball)
Agree with you, that he has to have a plan to go hire the best offensive staff he can find. That money def. needs to be there.
I think Hubbs comments are spot on to what we're hearing as far as Gruden not being the next coach. Its been all over the ad all night/morning. The names we're hearing the most are Strong, Fedora and Gundy. Not hearing Mora or Golden today, not yet anyway.
Charlie Strong.
Agreed. I say get a pool of 9 million and make it happen. Gotta keep Graham but beyond that who cares. Set it up and roll with it.
Look guys, Strong barely won the Big East he is not what UT needs. Not to mention he has a BCS game to coach, do you really think he is going to jump before that bowl game? Most likely no, so our recruiting class this year would be in the tank.
No thanks, with the money we have to spend we can do much better than Strong.
IMO Strong would have the quickest success out of Fedora,Gundy or Golden...L'ville will spend money to match most offer from the chatter. Also CS may have put himself in a bad PR spot. He's made some promises to recruits especially the Dade county kids that could backfire if he dips before they leave. Coaches down here remember that stuff and will lock you out of campus and releasing film/transcript etc....like they did with Shannon and Meyer at a few schools.
Apparently you did not watch the game last night. His defense gave up 85 yd, & 68 yd. TD passes to the #80 ranked passing offense in the FBS last night. Bridgewater, broken wrist and all, bailed him out on a short field after Rutgers fumbled, or Louisville would have lost the game.
Sorry, I don't understand all the love for Strong. Is he really the best candidate after Gruden?
