Charlie Strong would be fine as the No.2 man behind Gruden.

I don't want Gary Patterson personally(He needs a job like Texas to succeed outside of TCU to me). I don't think he's a good enough recruiter nationally for UT.

Larry Fedora can stay at UNC. Don't know why people are hyping him up.

Stoops here may bring his fire back. He's not as fiery of a coach as he was in the early 2000s. He would be very good on the recruiting trail here though. And would hit Florida just as well as Strong. Remember he pulls guys from Florida to Oklahoma imagine what he would do being closer. Then he's known in Texas. He could do some real damage as an HC here. As long as his teams are focused week in and week out.

Why hasn't Mahlzahn(think I'm spelling it right lol) been brought up? Didn't know he was terrible coach all of a sudden. I like him more than Taggart, Smart, Jones, Fedora, Kingsbury and a few others on these lists.

Mora would be fine too. That UCLA roster isn't loaded with talent but I like the brand of football their playing.

David Shaw is high on my list but he's got a good job at his school of choice.

Golden needs to stay at Miami. His team looks exactly like Dooley's squad. All offense and no defense. Not my cup of tea at all.

James Franklin is a good coach but I don't think the fans really want that hire here. And I want our next coach to drub Vandy.

I'd take Stoops or Strong and be thrilled. Mahlzahn is unproven, but I can't say for sure he'd suck. Not a huge fan of the spread though, without Cam or Tebow type players, the SEC defenses would probably eat it up.

You don't like Patterson but you like Gus?! One's a PROVEN COLLEGE HC and consistent winner and the other is a glorified Rush Propst. You need your a** whipped for this rationale.

So, Swan, is LWS getting on board with Gruden to UT or is he simply providing info?

LWS just posted this in response to your same question on VQ...

I think less than 5% chance but not dead.

I'm one of those that has never believed Gruden is hell bent on anything but the NFL. If he ends up at Tennessee I would be over joyed with it. But I just have felt it was a long shot all along, even with all the talk that has happened.

JMO.. lot of my friends don't share that thinking and a lot more other people don't as well.

Sounds like LWS is just like many, he'll believe it when he sees it. But it's clear to him that talks are going on and many people he respects think it's going to happen.

That's encouraging....but I'm still not going to invest a lot of stock in it.

I wish I could convince myself not to check on here every half-hour but damn if I can't stop...

It would take a miracle at this point from what im hearing. This is going to be a circus til the new coach is named.

skeet what do you make of this??

"Media room at UT is set up for a press conference"

Is it always set up? Or is this just another rumor?

Skeet, would you say Gruden's demands of control are more than or on-par with what Saban has at UA?

Either way--why wouldn't that happen at UT, Cheek?

I'm not advocating giving Grunden EVERYTHING he wants but if it's similar to what Saban has, do the powers that be not see the transformation undertaken at Bama since his arrival??

YES, I realize that Saban-like results are not likely but if there was a coach who could give an immediate boost of confidence and instant credibility back to this University, it's Jon Gruden. Would it yield the same results? I don't know....but I'm sure as hell willing to find out.

I understand the hesitation but the potential risk is not NEARLY as high as the potential reward. If it's a squabble over how much power to give him or resistance from the academic side to give him "Sabanesque" control....those people need to go. NOW.

I care about the academic integrity of this university but not at the expense of potentially missing out on the biggest hire the football program has ever made.

Skeet....response?

With Cheek and Martin here, no one will be given Saban type control.

bcartervol said it's not always set up like that according to the person who sent him the pic.

What is this supposed to mean? I would imagine that room doesn't always look like this, but then again, it is the offseason and we are expecting a presser within the next two weeks at some point. No chairs.

Skeet, always appreciate the info you bring, especially w/ recruiting. You wouldn't know this, because I don't believe you have kept up with all of the Gruden threads (almost impossible too); however the OGs (those who have been saying Gruden is coming and laid out the groundwork for what would take place weeks ago) said that when the time got close, things would happen that makes it look like the plan fell through and Gruden would not be our next coach. Then, all of a sudden, Hart swoops in at the last minute to save the day when it seems impossible. It sure seems that over the last 24 hours this is setting up for what could be happening. Hold on tight..it may be a very bumpy ride!

That's weird. Seems to me that the media would soon be alerted if there were going to be one.

Who said there was a presser today? Most of the Grudenites have always said it will be tomorrow. Some have said not until next week. The locker room isn't normally set up for a press conference, someone snapped a pic and posted it, thought I would share since Head asked about the rumor. That's all.

Of course this part would happen regardless.

people are going to blame Hart for this, but he can only do so much. Gruden or any other coach will never have full control at the University Of Tennessee at this current time. Football takes a back seat to many different things at this current time and that is out of Harts hands.

We might as well move to the sun belt conference then. If this is true we are going to continue to get our brains beat out in the SEC.:cray:

Some have been saying today, but yes, more have said tomorrow. You know, though, I was just thinking: don't they sometimes take photos of recruits with them in front of the UT Presser curtain when they come on visits? Seems like I've seen pics like that before. It's possible that's all that is, but I hope I'm wrong.
