Yea but the player's salaries are ridiculous. What is the cap these days?

It's around 120 mill. But some of the revenue sharing from the larger teams help with the smaller teams generating revenue. Teems like Pittsburgh, New York, Dallas, and whatever the Super Bowl winner make serious coin for their apparel sales.

Plus, the Sunday Ticket deal they have with DirecTV is around a billion per right now.

So I thought Gruden would stop getting paid by the Bucs at the end of October- Mid November, but apparently his payments will run out mid December...This is important because Tampa will not pay him those checks if Tennessee announces him as coach, and if he doesn't get the last two checks apparently Gruden would want UT to pay them...TIFWIW

so pay the man!

Well i am outta here for the night. Hopefully better news tomorrow. Everyone have a restful and safe night.

Gruden 2012

Does anyone know if a coach has won a Super Bowl and a college national championship? Gruden certainly could be the first to win a Super Bowl and BCS championship

Jimmy Johnson won the National Championship in 1987 at the University of Miami, and he won the 1992 and 1993 Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys.

Hey, don't let a couple rotten apples spoil the whole bunch. It's a message board. Some of us want to hear what everyone else is hearing. It's the responsibility of the reader to determine what is right and what is incorrect.

I've believed his info all along. It WOULD be nice to have a little substance to the smiley faces, though. The other guys always come up with something ('got a text from my contact' or 'heard from my source') .... something, anything. My gut tells me he knows something good....

Good to know. Dude can still coach, someone will get him eventually and they will do well. I just don't think Fisher or Strong are what UT needs right now. Patterson or Petterson would be homeruns but I doubt we could get either of them.

Peterson has never had to really recruit to win, that would be a total shock here at UT. Patterson doesn't have to leave the state of Texas much to recruit, and is in line to land the Texas job, when Mack leaves.

Let me qualify my last statement by also stating that obviously Golden would be an improvement over Dooley. We simply need to better than that though.

Disagree. They have 10 commitments at Miami right now. That's disgraceful, even for a team with the NCAA setting up shop. Don't think they will do anything next year either. Al is a career 8 win a year kind of coach.

I'm sorry...since when did signing period end tonight?

And I wonder why Miami won't do anything. The program is about to burn.

Penn State wanted him for a very damn good reason. He can coach.

I've been looking over numbers in college and NFL, and a lot of it doesn't make sense... colleges like Alabama bring in 150 million+ a year in revenue, but only profit a few million, then teams like the Browns have 250 million a year in revenue and profit, even while paying their players, which the NCAA doesn't do... trying to figure out each teams yearly expense breakdowns.

Most Universities are non-profit, even private ones (although there are for-profit schools like Phoenix).

They only have operating revenue and do not ever register a profit, even if their operating expense is lower than their total revenue.

The NFL is the exact opposite.

This is wrong in so many ways. I am 41 years old,not a young chicken anymore. I need to wake up at 4am to catch my 06:30 flight and I am still glued to this thread. I will need to sign up for GA, (Grundenites Anonymous) to kick this habit.

The problem is UT has let this go on for so long that if the Gru falls threw everyone else will be a disappointment.

That's the biggest part of this problem. If Gru falls through, as you say, only Bob Stoops (who isn't coming) would be adequate.

Tennessee could hire a winner like Larry Fedora, and the fanbase will want him burn because the fan base is so enamored with a long shot.

That is nuts. Why is a guy making 5 million dollars a year worried about 1 or 2 checks from a former employer. That money, serious as it may be SUPPLEMENTS his income...He'd throw away 30 to 50 million dollars over two checks? Hard to believe, then again, that is not my tax bracket.
