I'm hoping I'm allowed to quote myself here... again, none of this makes sense when you look at it from the 30,000 ft view. Read the facts and put together your own puzzle.
VN is in total meltdown and it is all because of Hyams. Hilarious.
Remember when we were mad that no one was reporting anything about Gruden? And that media steam would start to pick up leading up to Friday? Now we get media steam picking up -- now admitting we are going after him -- and everyone loses it.
Fact: Hart fired Dooley before Kentucky game. If we didn't have our guy, why not trot him out against KY while you continue your search? Yea fans would be mad, but it doesn't really matter because you're not going to a bowl either way.
Fact: We have $18 million back from no longer donating to University. This mysteriously happens a few days after firing Dooley. Do you need $18 million to hire anyone else?
Fact: Neither UT nor Gruden have officially squashed the rumor. One of the two had the perfect opportunity to do so. The other one either has the worst PR department in the entire NCAA by not squashing it, or knows something is up and has been told not to talk.
Fact: Hart has been spotted at sporting events like Lady Vols Soccer, Men's Basketball, etc... instead of doing his most important job, the hire that drives the Athletic Department? Illogical.
Fact: Hyams has been a day late and a dollar short several times. See: Kiffin hire.
Fact: Hyams works for the radio station most closely associated with UT.
Fact: We have (publicly) been on the coaching search for well over a week. We're just now interviewing? Illogical.
Fact: Saban and Meyer both denied involvement with their universities 4 days before accepting.
Fact: Nothing has leaked from AD this entire time. First leak is a negative to get off back of Gruden. Why would you leak that? Illogical unless to get pressure off Gruden, set up Hart as the AD who "rescued" the deal.
Fact: Gruden has been waiting to get every last penny from Tampa Bay firing. Unknown when that last check hits, but could be reason to make a delay happen.
Fact: Ownership changes in NFL require NFL Owner's approval. No one offered anyone a $100 million stake in the Browns. Gruden can easily deny this, but note how quickly he moved on.
Smoke, all of it.
No inside info, just my two cents.
Also: of course I didn't mention the OGs since we all know about that, but I won't count it as fact simply because I don't know them. (I am 100% in with them though.)
OGs come on at ~2:30pm with BOOM! and awesome news. Let's think a minute... ink is dry? Deal confirmed and done?
At 2:51pm Sports Animal puts on Twitter they have breaking news that breaks at 3:05pm. New is ONLY that there was a meeting scheduled, and canceled. Literally non-news. Not worth reporting unless we are still engaged, otherwise you would report that he is officially out.
Doesn't say anything about
why which is of course the most important part. Rescheduled? Deal already complete and no need to meet? Met last night so of course today is canceled?
If the meeting is rescheduled for a few hours or days later this is suddenly a non-event. If it is canceled because everything is already finalized (last night?) then it is a non-event. It's so vague and ambiguous that it means nothing. But it is good for driving listeners and page views.
Again, why is the first leak negative? If Gruden were out why wouldn't you put out a press release or statement? Wait, didn't Ainge read something from Jimmy Stanton this morning on air (I didn't hear so I didn't put this as a fact) that they wouldn't address any rumors?
And shouldn't we be suspicious that Hyams and Hubbs -- again, both with significant ties to AD -- think we have 0% chance, essentially don't report anything, and then suddenly have some juicy news to report back to back? But never reported the meeting was happening in the first place and were claiming there was no chance that we would even be at the table?
One more thing... remember Hart's requirements of a HC. Which of the other candidates mentioned (Golden, Strong, et al) meets all of the requirements?
Take a step back and use some logic. It doesn't add up if you take the radio story and run with it. I highly doubt we get the $18 million back from academic donation without knowing why we were going to use it.
I'm out for a little bit. Soon.
