Official Jon Gruden Thread XII

Why do they place this sentence in first paragraph, then say in the headlines he has not received an offer

propaganda is the term I would us...NOT A LIE, BUT NOT THE TRUTH

That's what I say. It's not as clear cut as those headlines.

Cant believe people still think there is nothing to Gruden to UT talk. There has been no denial from UT and they would squash it because in allowing speculation of Gruden, UT setsthemselves up for an Aburn-Chizik reaction and letdown since so much smoke has surrounded this. All Hart has to say is "only coaches currently coaching", or "proven COLLEGE head coaches", he doeasnt even have to say no Gruden specifically.

I dont tell me kids what they are getting for Christmas. However, if they kept thinking they were getting a puppy, I would make sure they knew they weren't, as not to give them false hope and create an awkward scene when they open a bag of colorful socks. I feel the same prinicple is in play with this coaching search.

Honestly I don't. I just wanted Dooley fired and a capable coach hired. I would be fine with any one of maybe 20 coaches hired today. We will be better in 2013 no matter what. The Gruden freakshow has become comical, that's all.

I don't disagree that it is comical, and I don't think most on here would. Hell, I come in here to be entertained after a long day.

It's fun. We haven't had much of that around our program lately.

I think we have as good a chance at hiring Gruden as we do anybody else, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Really down playing Gruden to UT, saying he is floating his name out there to entice pro offers....Dan Patrick

What I'm trying to say is even IF we do get Gruden now, it's not like he's the saving grace of the program that everyone is trying to make him out to be... He is NOT a sure thing at the college level. Yes he's won a super bowl, yes his name alone would attract major positive attention to the program. However, Gruden is VERY intense and idk if kids will react to him very well or not. Also he is a PRO coach. Period there's no debating that one... He will have offers to coach at that level assuming he has some success here and I don't see him passing those opportunities up down the road. I would be just as excited as the next guy if we landed Gruden, but I do not see him as the long term and steady solution that we need

Bucksnort, Your wrong, we need Gruden to get UT back on track and it starts with recruiting....Capiche

No idea. I'm surprised we haven't had more of a media leak at this point, knowing what I know.

Doesn't matter, we are still inside the original timeline that was expressed in October, by about 3 weeks. Could happen sooner, who knows? But everything else has happened almost exactly like I was originally told.

Boro... how many times will you have to repeat this if this thing drags out another 3 weeks....

I feel for you man! :eek:hmy:

I hate to quote myself, but the above explains the reality of the question that was asked. I believe it was intentionally filled with erroneous information so that Gruden could honestly deny the truthfulness of the rumor as stated in order to buy some additional time.

I'm sorry, but people are ignoring every plausible signal put in fron tof them that Gruden is likely not going to Tennesseee. It's at the point where if he came out and said, "I will NEVER, EVER, EVER, coach at the University of Tennessee", people would say that he didn't specify the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Anyway, choose what you want to believe whether it has any basis in logic or not. Here is a good read by Mr.SEC on the coaching search. It does suggest there is still some hope on the Gruden front so fell free to latch onto that.

Gruden Mania Won’t Die In Tennessee: The Latest On UT’s Search

In my opinion, this really is exactly how it was planned to go. Gruden finally got it out there that he "hasn't been OFFERED the UT job."

The Espn headline even goes out of the way to mention the replacement of Dooley - "Jon Gruden says Tennessee Volunteers not offered job to replace Derek Dooley."

We've all know that Gruden didn't want to be disrespectful in any way to Dooley or UT. Now the only factual report out there with Gruden quotes is that he has not been offered the job - 11 days after Dooley was fired.

That makes it look just as Gruden wanted it to. He's a good guy with a lot of respect for UT and Dooley. He's trying to go about things the right way. Or at least make it appear that way. I still believe the "insiders" and this really is all going according to plan.

RT @TravHaneyESPN: I was told last night Tennessee willing to pay up to $5 mil for new coach. Which could bring those bigger names into view

Ha Ha. He still is. You have to listen to know that though. Somehow, I bet you haven't and it's OK. Different strokes for different folks. Makes America Great!!!!

99% of the people who criticize Rush Limbaugh have never even listened to 10 minutes of his show......imo.

That makes ZERO sense. Gruden can have any open job in the NFL he wants.

Gruden absolutely loves having his name in the news. It keeps his hype up. Do you think if he stayed out of the spotlight when he got fired, that he'd be a candidate for every coaching job? No.
