Sure, it will come up a lot until next season (but after a few weeks mainly only in the more dedicated CFB outlets), but if it were me, I'd try to maximize the initial exposure of the story by releasing it Thursday/Friday before the SECCG.

The way the news cycle seems to work nowadays, anything release Monday/Tuesday is lukewarm by the end of the week.

I guess I can see that somewhat. I just am not totally sure its Gruden. I would love for it to be. I just dont know that we can offer what he wants.

I would be very surprised if it were true that everything is in place and they are waiting several days to announce it in the interest of timing the splash. That just doesn't happen. Every day that it is delayed is one more day for it to leak. If it leaks, then the admin loses control of the release and the flow of information. That is far from ideal for them. They'd much rather hold a PC with everyone there than get bombed with individual calls and interview requests.

While it may be true that a tentative agreement is in place, and they very well may have their man, I think it is more likely that they aren't releasing anything because they don't have all the I's dotted and the T's crossed.

Or, Gruden wants the delay for personal reasons.

Long time listener first time caller, just wanted to say huge OG fan.

Friday actually makes a lot of sense. Gives you time to get all your ducks in a row. Gives a full day before the SEC Championship to near monopolize the airways on the day before an incredibly important weekend for college football. Also it will still be incredibly fresh for Saturday coverage.

If it is Gruden, and I do believe it is between my own sources and everything posted here. We are talking about a major production. Not lets just go sign and run out to announce this. With time running out before the recruiting blackout, I imagine you want to have as many things in place as you can. Even the simple things we are not thinking about.

You are talking not just about a new head coach, but an almost entirely entire new staff, the departure of much of the current staff, informing the players, enough legal paperwork to level a forest, preparing promotional materials, media packets, getting living arrangements together (my source) etc. etc.

I'll hang up and listen. Go Vols and Go Gruden.

No clue if it is or isn't either. Hope like hell it is.

I'll say this, if his ego is half of what people act like it is, college football offers something the NFL has a hard time matching.

Succeed in the NFL, people merely tolerate you unless you achieve a near impossible Lombardi-esque standard. Tom Coughlin doesn't have an statues on the way that I'm aware of.

Come to an SEC program and have any sort of sustained success, and you are damn near deified.
