I can confirm CAK and Knox Catholic are not the same school.

We can't say this enough:

Leave his family out of this!

Well if that post was not from someone in the area...its possible he was just assuming maybe.they were the same school?

State law..job has to be posted 14 days and so many interviews with a minority being among them....puts any hiring on hold till Dec 1

I hope this wasn't the phone call he was waiting on last night. SMH:pilot:

where are you getting this?

This was posted on the Gator Country board by "Gator 84 88" a VIP member there with over 3,700 posts and 4 year history there. Can anyone verify if any of this is true?

" Here's what i DO KNOW in regards to Gruden to UT rumors
Gruden was in Knoxville this past week and interviewed with some of the board from CAK (Knoxville Catholic). Don't want to give my source away but will say it's been confirmed. What i also heard was the amount of money JG is asking is the huge issue. $5 Mil for himself and another $5 mil for staff. It sounds as if he is trying to sway an NFL staff wherever he selects to coach. His kid REALLY wants to go to CAK. If there was no interest in UT i would find it hard to believe he would have did the Catholic school interview. That board member that sat in on the interview just happens to be one of my coaches and the father of one of my FBU Team Tennessee players.

I would put as much stake in this as what my son said this morning about pooping.

So correct me if I'm wrong. Strong, Golden and Fisher have all said they are "committed" to their schools? So only Gruden (ESPN said he was committed not Jon) and Stoops are the only candidates who haven't publicly stated their stance?

That public stance doesn't mean a whole lot. They all say that.

ESPN didnt say anything about Gruden being committed to them...especially when they are offering Dilfer the job.

I wouldn't be surprised if stoops hasnt been contacted

Gruden or bust?

Keep trying. I am calling BS because they already know and they are only leaking tidbits of what they are allowed to. Leaking out that he lowered his offer is safe and makes them appear credible while they are being forced to appear lost...and can still be factual...saying he is "on the side" is BS and they are being forced to say it...what team in their right mind tells Gruden to "wait and see?"

All I asked was a link that definitively says that Gruden wants to be here. That is all. I don't give a crap what the media outlets say. They say what gets them the most listeners. The ONLY thing that I PERSONALLY have heard Gruden say about UT was during an interview on the animal with John and Jimmy during the spring football camp and he absolutely sounded like he was campaigning for the UT job. That is the one and only thing that ANYONE can link to him about him liking this job or even remotely wanting to be here. Everyone has a lot to say about Chucky, but Chucky isn't saying anything himself.

ESPN isn't run by some passionate fan base. They are highly successful people who will protect their brand at the expense of any employee. There is no way Gruden just doesn't call the game tonight, and they make some stupid excuse. The reason I say that is the only other option is them saying Gruden took the Tennessee job, and you will know this by Friday. Neither are logical.

Dilfer isn't stepping in for Gruden tonight. He may eventually, but not tonight. If he is, it is because there is an announcement from Tennessee that Gruden is coming, and that also will not be coming down the tubes today.

Cowherd's comments have been exponentially blown out of context.

Stoops rumored to get an extension and pay raise....I think all of his hot air earlier in the year about wanting to coach in the SEC was an effort for a pay raise.

Unless the bottom falls out, Stoops remains at OK

I'm not blasting him. But don't say you're 100% sure if you're not. Take the OCI "3 amigos" debacle as an example. It just annoys me when people say something is 100%. Absolutely nothing in life is 100%.

And your point of bringing this up again is what? Just to be a smart @ss? Exactly what I was saying about posters earlier. What a shame.

Nope, you just posted that nothing in life is 100%. Then stated in several posts that you had been attacked. Just wondering if you were 100% sure you had been attacked.

Let me preface this by saying I want Jon Gruden as the next Tennessee coach. But I do think we need to do two things, or we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.

First off we need to of course look at other coaches in case this falls through, because coaching deals can and do fall through.

Second, we need to address how Gruden would do at UT.

Let's address the second thing first.

I think Gruden is a great football coach, obviously very smart. I almost think he's too complex to coach college. He's known for not being patient with young QBs. He went through a ton of qbs in the NFL. He wasn't known for developing qbs in the NFL. If he can be patient and work with young qbs and develop them into great qbs then I think it'll work. I think this is the biggest concern with Gruden, and I think it's a BIG concern. But everyone has concerns and I still want Gruden. I just worry about someone that hasn't coached much in the college game, hasn't covered the game. It's a concern.

Second let's look at possible coaches. I think you can throw a few of these names out

David Shaw- He's where he wants to be, no chance.

Mike Gundy- I'd love him, but he's from Oklahoma, he went to OSU, he coached there before he became a HC there. He's not going anywhere.

Jim Mora JR- He's from LA, his dad spent a year at UCLA when he was a child. All but two of his jobs have been west coast jobs. He's not going anywhere and if he does it'll be as a HC in the NFL.

LONGSHOT

Bob Stoops. I'm not sure what the connection between him and Hart is but whatever it is I seriously doubt this will happen. He's still in a good spot. Just because he's frustrated with fans doesn't mean he is going to leave. I'd say he's more of a longshot then Gruden.

realistic

Jimbo Fisher- I doubt he leaves. He's in a position to compete for a title if he can go undefeated in the weak ACC. I'm not sure about his coaching abilities or his recruiting abilities. I hear how he's a great recruiter, but he's in Florida so I tend to take that with a grain of salt.

Butch Davis- This guy can win and recruit. He recruited some amazing talent at UNC, not a school known for it's football talent. I think we could do much much much worse then him at UT. My only concern is his age. It sounds like he's going to be cleared of any NCAA violations so that's a plus

Gary Patterson. I'm not totally sold on this guy. HE was in a weaker conference racking up those wins. I wouldn't hate the hire, but I wouldn't be jumping up and down.

The following are guys I do NOT WANT AT ALL

Dan Mullen- seems stiff, good coach but just doesn't seem like he'd be a good fit. something about him I don't care for

Charlie Strong- OVERRATED. This guy was passed up by Florida TWICE to be a HC. If you can't beat Syracuse and UCONN then I want no part of this guy.

Al Golden- I know I said good things about him earlier, but I wasn't aware he might have had some dealings in some of the shady stuff going on at the U. He seems like a good coach but not the HR we need

P.S.

Anyone find it odd that Gruden and Dungy both still make their homes in Tampa....
Your right Butch is over the hill. Guess we go coachless.

The Fisher news is no news in my opinion. You can't quote Saban when discussing people saying Gruden is dead, and then take Fisher's word as gospel.
