Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

Nope. Saw it. You were referring to real world people outside of here (a forum)...however...your biggest issue at this time appears to be with those "here" in a "Gruden" thread...and all the Gruden hopeful...like we are crazy or something...nobody sees you disagreeing with the guy at Pilot or Walmart...but everybody here sees you disagreeing with Grudenites in an obviously "Pro Gruden" thread...that could be why you've never seen it anywhere else you would have to leave this thread to see the negagrudes or pro strongs, etc....and I was pointing out if you want to discuss other coaches or the possibility of a non Gruden hire...there is a place for that...not here...not fighting man, just saying, if you cant believe all the Gruden hype, considering where you're trying to disbelieve it, maybe its time to find a new thread to play in...

U don't have to believe that Gruden is coming here to post here.

This isn't "believing Gruden will be the next head coach" thread.. It's a Gruden discussion thread, and that's what I'm doing.. Discussing things related to him.

I agree, and Gruden is the only person possible to announce in my eyes. If Gruden does not get finalized and we have to go with another plan, the announcement will not be this week. NO WAY Hart hires Golden without getting "No's" from several others. I have to think Golden is far enough down the list he would not be in play until after next week and other interviews with Stoops, Patterson, Peterson, Fisher, Mora Jr, etc....

Rational thinking on a message board? You sir are to me admonished and congratulated. I agree if something is announced this week its either Gruden or calling up interim coach Chaney to promote and that 100% isn't happening.

Has it been confrmed that Gruden gets his last Bucs payment if he is not employed as a coach through November 29? If that is true, then Gruden and UT have to make this look like it is in doubt until November 30.

The Knoxville media sucks hairy titty's

I think what he is trying to say is that UT is weighing the options. From a negotiation standpoint, UT needs to know that it has other options to talk Gruden down some if he truly wants the job. Also, it sounds like if we get Gruden that he is going to be expensive. IF he gets 50 mil for 8 years, then you can't get rid of him in four or five years even if he doesn't translate to College football and has Dooley like seasons... Do I think Gruden is the best hire out there? Yes, but I also know that if you give him that kind of money and it doesn't workout, then you are set back 10 years... The boosters and Hart are weighing their options and making sure they make the best hire they can make for UT... Honestly, would you not want them to look at all options and make the most informed decision possible?

This is spot on.

I think Basilio's post made more sense and seemed more credible than ANYTHING else I have read regarding the coaching search.

Quite honestly, when people on here post that it's x-amount of money that will be announced on x-date and the coaches are: x,y,z - it all sounds like a load of baloney. I'm not saying it's all fabricated - but it's certainly not 100% true.

The process that Basilio put together today sounds absolutely legitimate. As stated in the quote above - this is exactly how the process SHOULD work. Gruden is a master... but maybe stoops would take the job for half the money? Maybe the general was actually cloned and his counterpart is being unfrozen from a cryogenic freeze as we lurk on VN. Perhaps Belichick is thinking of a new co-HC theory of coaching where him and Saban BOTH come to UT and share duties.... lol

The point is: There could be another great opportunity. There's no shame in some efficient due diligence before spending $30+ million of someone else's money.

There is no way a scenario exists where Gruden is seriously interested in the job and we're keeping him on the "sideline" to consider other candidates, outside of doing due diligence in regards to the hire anyway.

The money movement, the credible rumors that this has been in the works for awhile, Hart knowing the whole Vol-Nation wants this and not immediately shutting it down to temper our expectations....it just doesn't add up.

Odds are what some of the OGs have said all along - this has been in play for awhile, they're taking the proper course to give the appearance of respect to DD and nothing shady in regards to the hiring process, and they're throwing out subtle smokescreens (without directly killing the possibility) to drag out this roller-coaster for maximum publicity/fan approval once it happens.

Gruden is coming.

sounds like Hart and some other big boosters are not sold on Gruden. So I dont think its a slam dunk if Gruden is interested in the job.

also, if Gruden is interested and UT decides to go in a different direction, that fact would never be made public because it would cause an uproar.

This certainly isn't going to be popular here but I am starting to think golden is exactly what we need if gruden doesn't happen. He has taken over two programs at rock bottom and with one of those performed miracles. The other the jury is still out on but without probation he would be in a championship game this week. I agree those other names must be called first but I will be completely behind al golden. His tract record shows he knows how to handle rock bottom situations and that's where we are!

If you don't spend it, you have just defrauded your largest benefactors.

The compensation was arranged AFTER he announced the move.

That deal kind of screwed Gruden too, the draft picks made his job miserable, putting him in a position to only pick up FA/washed-up Veteran QBs for years, and never build a franchise.

Ooo. Didn't think about that twist. Good one.
(Not that I think that would be the right thing to do)

I don't buy the cooling on Gruden or the weighing options theory. But if they are weighing their options, they better consider the consequences if they make a weak hire and it doesn't work. From the jump anything less the Stoops and your going to see a dramatic drop in attendance and revenue and you will HAVE to win big games immediately or further lose the fanbase. And Stoops would cost at least as much as Gruden!! THAT IS A BIG BIG RISK!! GO VOLS GET IT DONE!! WE WANT GRUDEN!!!!

One thing I dont understand is why anybody even thinks anyone else would be interested. I mean hell, when kiffydoosh left, we couldnt beg the #8 guy to come and settled for #9...so now all of a sudden we got to wait on #2,3,4,5 to say no?? Where were they at 3 years ago? What about us improved to make us a coaching target?? Gruden wants to be here...

FTR, all this media stuff is BS.

So maybe they are delaying it until the 30th so he can get his payment in peace then we announce it? Seems plausible.
