that makes absolutely no sense. just because you take a job where a team has problems doesn't mean you are a good coach.

I don't think they hire Golden because it would be his undoing, and personally I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he hasn't lost his mind!! GO VOLS GET GRUDEN!!!:rock:

I think Golden is way too risky of a hire with the current state of the football program at UT. May have been a good hire instead of Dooley but not as Dooley's replacement after what the program has been through and the up hill climb it is facing to reach relevancy...JMO

Smart or Golden better be way down the list or boom goes the next 5-7 years. They know that, and that's why they are working very hard to make the Gruden agreement a binding one. Not sure if there was a problem or if that is just misdirection all the talk of snags. Either way neither Smart nor Golden will be in the conversation.

I will believe its Gruden until I hear otherwise from either Hart or Gruden himself. Only speculating and a little nauseated seeing Smart and Goldens names mentioned with the UT job.

I think many coaches would feel pressured to bail with that type of heat. Second year in a row they will not participate in a bowl, and at some level you have to think he can't produce an image he would be proud of. Look at Bill O'Brien, he is going back to the NFL.

Think of it this way. You are hiring a CEO, this guys resume is: took a bankrupt company and guided back to profitability before leaving for another financially struggling company that the SEC (not the conference) is investigating and has managed to prevent the place from completely going under. He might not have record profits on his resume but to say the guy isn't good at his job is absurd. In some circumstances you can't just look at something as simple as a record. Now Al isn't first on my list but I think at a stable program he would be a good coach.

I think you take 18 million for a lot of reasons. Many include a coaching replacement, but also for financial stability and a "public" vote of confidence by the Chancellor.

A person who can't be bothered to capitalize the first letter of their sentence is arguing intelligence?

Long story short... he's done a fine job for a guy that stepped into a minefield. He's not my idea of a good hire, but some of you are quite reactionary to simply scorn him with the title of a bad coach.

I don't want him as our coach, but I also can see the merits of his resume, based off of exigent circumstances.

Somewhat. He beat out UF for big time CB and Safety, in Bush and Howard, but both were native Floridians. It's easier to recruit there than most places. We truly need someone who can reach coast to coast to recruit here.
