Don't know the point of speculating on anyone other than Gruden, just read the last two posts from the cliff notes thread in the coaches forum! They are absolutely hilarious and 100% in line with nicks fill in the blank. Some pretty amazing stuff.

Gruden is a good coach and would probably do a good job here. However, he is not a grand slam. There are legitimate concerns with Gruden. He would be a good hire, but isn't the perfect coach that a lot of people are making him out to be.

I agree completely with this but this is also the root of my apprehension...we know getting Gruden will likely take the biggest contract in college football...if you're going to do that it has to be an unquestioned slam dunk...especially in our situation...there are too many ifs and buts surrounding Gruden to commit that kind of money to him

The thing that worries me some about Gruden is that he hasn't spent much time in the college game. It's different than the NFL. Not saying he can't coach college, but it's not like he's been all over the country on winning college coaching staffs.

This is probably off subject but I figured I would get the quickest answer here.. Does anyone know if Randolph will get a medical redshirt?

Not wanting Gruden as UT's HC? Am I reading some of you correctly? smh

The guy is Mr. Football in this country right now. Everyone who knows anything about football knows who he is. He will draft recruits like Saban does day 1. If he's hired within the next week or two UT will finish with a top 10 class w/o a blink, could easily be top 5. And 2014 will be a top 5 lock.

The hype, buzz, confidence, everything about this program will do a 180 overnight. Season tickets will sell like hotcakes, the spring game will be 80k+, ESPN will do story after story about Gruden and UT.

He won a ******* superbowl vs. the team he built. He's a tireless worker and one of the few coaches that his players love and hate at the same time. The staff will be compromised of multiple Superbowl Winning coaches and former UT players/coaches. The new facilities will be completely done and recruiting should be like the 90's.

If hired, he might not be the next General Neyland but I fail to see how it would be a risk ALL of us shouldn't be excited and willing to take. The last guy couldn't beat a ranked team to save his life and we had to google him when he was first hired and now we're trying to talk ourselves out of being excited for Jon Gruden?? Wow.

Watch for some Fisher and UT rumors to make the rounds this week...Was told by a big Nole booster that Hart has asked to speak with Fisher about the UT job. Said FSU is concerned bc they can't match the UT money and draw of SEC with all going on with ACC.

This. Gruden would be a dynamite hire. He is a tireless worker that would bring in elite recruits from all over the country. His staff would be one of the best in the country and he can outcoach most everyone in the entire country.

While I would agree Strong, Shaw, Fisher, etc. would be great hires, Gruden would be the best possibly hire out there.

Nobody said they didn't want Gruden. Well I didn't anyways. Just discussing other possibilities, because anyone believing that he is a done deal is setting themselves up for disappoint. I do believe he is very intrigued by the opening.

Hearing the same thing. The one example was you drop one game in the ACC, no matter how good FSU is and they are out of the BCS picture. But in the SEC 1 game is not a big deal. If Jimbo could recruit for UT like he does at FSU, UT would be able to raid FL. The only thing that might prevent the interest is if rumors continue about FSU leaving the ACC which may happen in the off season.

I have no idea what Gruden could do in college. He may be a slam dink as some hope he may not. And yes coaching in college is very different. And Super Bowl rings only go so far, go ask Weis and how well it has helped him in college developing players. But I think Gruden would bring in recruits and has the ability to turn the program around. The only concern would be the NFL. Every year he is courted by NFL teams and I think once the job comes along that he wants he will be gone. That would be my only concern hiring Gruden.

Someone like Fisher will always be a college coach. Same as Patterson, Strong, Cutcliffe, and Tressel. They have a love for it. I am not sure Gruden does. Maybe though if he takes the job he will develop that same passion.

Who was Weis HC for in the NFL?

The problem with Gruden is the money...there are too many ifs about him to justify 10 million a year for he and his staff...i think some of you are too caught up in the name to look at his objectively

What, you don't think being an OC and calling plays in the NFL with hall of famer Tom Brady at QB is the same thing as going to a superbowl with Rich Gannon and winning one with Brad Johnson at QB... as a Head Coach... ????

Questioning Gruden bc he hasn't been in the college game in 20 years is nonsense imo. A good coach is a good coach. Period. The only issue I could potentially see would be all the recruiting rules & compliance but I don't think it'd be a problem. He'd more than likely have several asst coaches from the college game to help him adjust. The guy is relentless & has a passion for being successful. There isn't anybody else we could hire right now that would bring in top notch recruits, unite this fanbase, sell tickets, & generate a national buzz immediately like Gruden would. Nobody.

I am a fan.

UT spending a lot of money on a big name coach will only affect me positively.

Been hearing the same for a while. Hart can get Jimbo if he really wants to. Others are in front of Jimbo, though.

The name I've jumped on the past week is Bo Pelini, IMO he's a better choice than Strong. Pelini is now 49-18 at NU, has won 9+ every year w/ two 10 win seasons. His 2nd year at NU he took them to the Big12 title game & lost on a last second FG by Texas, his NU team this year will be playing in the B1G title game next Saturday. He has won or tied for his conference division 4 out of his 5 seasons as a HC. He has coached in the NFL all on the defensive side of the ball. His first year as a DC his defense was ranked 11th nationally & led the nation in turnovers. In his 3 seasons as LSU's DC they were ranked 3rd nationally. His contract runs through 2014 & he is being paid $2.7 million a year right now.

Obviously it would be an improvement over what we just fired.... but I would not be excited about that hire. He comes off as a bully, imo.
