I think so Thunder. I think he would love to get back into the SEC.

When I look at what Hart stated as things he wants in a coach I don't see anyone that fits that bill better than Strong...and that includes Gruden...

The guy has succeeded everywhere he's gone and every position that he's been in...and there's no doubt he can recruit

I think he is our next coach. And I think he would be a great hire. He may like Louisville, but the Big East is crumbling.

Why do people love Taggart so much? He's doing fine at Western Kentucky and all but I want a bit more proven coach.

I really think Taggart will be a great coach at a BCS school someday soon. I love the style of offense he runs and he seems like a very good recruiter and gameday coach. He very proven as a big time coach so he's not at the top of my list. However, if Gruden and others turn us down, I would be in favor of hiring Taggart.

Strong is a solid coach. He may be the most realistic option if Gruden turns us down.

I would love Shaw, but I don't see him leaving Stanford.

If not Gruden then my top 3 candidates would be Strong, Strong and Strong

I agree. All this Fisher talk is crazy. He's got one of the five easiest recruiting jobs in the country and under achieves every single year. Strong and Gruden are the only two that would make me REALLY happy, anyone else that comes to mind now wouldn't thrill me.

Totally agree Thunder. I would not be disappointed at all if Hart announced him as our next HC. I would be tickled. JMO but more than Gruden.

Your in dream world if you think David shaw would leave Stanford. I agree with others I no gruden I say grab strong and call it a day

I saw on another site two names that were interesting to hear. One being Freeze at Ole Miss. Not sure if UT has interest in him but no offense to Ole Miss could not hold onto him if UT came calling.

But the name that stood out was Tressel. A UA site mentioned his name and how he was looking to get back into the college game. The man can coach, recruit, and would bring a great staff. His ability to recruit nationally, especially the midwest would be huge for a program like UT. Just curious if any UT fans have heard his name mentioned.:hi:

Have heard it mentioned, but I think it is being used only as a smokescreen. GRUDEN!!

Tressel is off the table. Our probation was just extended 2 years. No way we add a coach with a show cause. Too bad IMO because he would do well for us.

I said my short list not UT's short list. :)

I'm hanging out on the Gruden train though right now. :whistling:

Don't get wrong with what I'm about to say...I'm all about some Gruden...but when I compare the two I keep coming up wih Strong being the better hire for us...

Strong
1. Successful college HC experience
2. Very successful college DC experience
3. Knows the SEC inside and out
4. Is a great recruiter
5. Would come in at about 3 million a year and 7 million total for staff

Gruden
1. Never a college HC
2. Hasn't coached in college for 20 years
3. Has not experienced recruiting as it is in the SEC now
4. Other than a Super Bowl (with a team another man built) his NFL career was average at best
5. Will likely take the highest HC salary and staff salary in college football to get him here

When I compare apples to apples it's Strong in a slam dunk for me

Let the lynching begin

I still find the Gruden hysteria to be just that - a hysteria. Do yourself a favor. If VolNation works itself into a frenzy over any rumor, go the other way.

People forget that Gruden built an Oakland team to perennial SB contender. Not to mention he won a SB that Dungy couldn't. Not saying he's the second coming, but you have to give him his credit.

Gruden is a good coach and would probably do a good job here. However, he is not a grand slam. There are legitimate concerns with Gruden. He would be a good hire, but isn't the perfect coach that a lot of people are making him out to be.

But after the super Bowl it went all down hill for Gruden. Just like AU's coach. I agree with Thunder would rather have Strong.

Why do you think they gave up so much to get Gruden? That team was getting old and too expensive. The purge of players started soon after. Blaming that all on Gruden is foolish.
