Ok I am back. It looks like I missed very little? This BabyVol is making it sound like control is the complicating thing? Like he likes to rip his clothes off and go streaking through the streets? Or he doesn't understand that he reports to an Athletic Director seeing as he makes a 7th of what I make? Which kind of no control are we talking about? If he has a wild side get him a tag along to remind him to keep his clothes on. If its a power type deal, send his wife with him to every function. We all know our wives have a way of crippling our manhood.

I totally agree with what the program needs. But still, it's nice to approach it from all angles and look at positives and negatives of the hire.

We always like to focus on the positives because of how terrible UT has been the past 5 years. Gruden brings a huge name, great coaching skills, and relentless work ethic

I worry about recruiting violations, his approach on the sideline with players, and press conferences when he loses. Those are the things we see.

How is he going to react to having the multiple bosses with big money moving this deal? It's got to be awkward for him to not really know who he technically reports to. Since this is boosters doing this work not Hart as many have said.

Thats why he is looking at several college coaches, they have recruiting experience. Gruden will be the "closer", much like Saban.

It does sound like some ethical issues have arisen and logically that leads me to think of some sort of NCAA requirements and leaves the university in a perilous position.
I think that would be the only possible reason UT could say no at this point.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the Browns...

All of this doesn't worry me as he has family locally.... I do not see him doing something to embarrass himself and the folks that have called Tennessee home so long....

One thing i can say for sure is that Momma isn't happy if the in-laws aren't happy..

You sure as he11 do not want to live in the same house with momma if she isn't happy..:eek:k:

Another thing, I was all for patience, but after watching this Texas game, I'm beginning to think that Brown will be forced out, and if Hart f--ks around, we could see ourselves competing with Texas for his services, and that's one school we don't want to go head to head with for any candidate, especially one as coveted as Gruden.

Agree with that. I heard he really like Texas also.

What are the biggest issues? that he wants as much money as he can for assistants? or does he want more control in the AD? I agree Saban gets what he wants, and look at their results. I want that, no doubt.

I agree we can't allow too much control by Gruden...just look at what Saban has done to Alabama football...oh....yeah....never mind.

On the other end of the spectrum, there is another example of what giving football too much control does somewhere in Pennsylvania.

Not a good idea if taken too far.

You give him whatever he needs to succeed. Period. He will not be stupid enough to try and bend any existing parameters or rules that need not be messed with.
You give him carte blanche and we will know within the first year or two if it is working for the university, the fans, and the community.
The probability of this hire not leading to big things here- is near zero.

I think its done. I'm not implying its not. I think it will be a great boost. But I am just saying, he is feisty!

Agree with your previous post. I have no worries about his abilities, but what I do worry about is him working within the limitations of the NCAA because they are very stringent. Add to that, we are already goIng to be under a microscope for the next few years.

Minor agitation, but that's my only concern.

I watched that NFL films piece on "cursing", man is Gruden fiery on the sideline. He is going to scare the **** out of opposing coaches and the referee staff. He has a lot of pride and passion in coaching. We need that.

At what point did Gruden turn into a werewolf that has to be locked up on full moons?

"Oh God! He's a wild, uncontrollable beast rampantly violating NCAA rules!"

Geez.

I do not know if it is UT or Gruden but this sounds like someone is looking for a way out and trying to save face.

There is also some worry that Gruden may be hard to control if hired.-babyvol

This is what scares me.

I may be way off here, but if I were Gruden, I would only take a job that seemed nearly perfect. He has a great gig going while he waits. Jobs will keep becoming available every year. By the way, more control probably means closer to perfect. That's Gruden's side. If I were on the admin side that would scare me some. Winning cures all though, as has been said. By the way, you can want control and not be an a-hole.

Who is implying that? But to think he won't commit one is silly. He has never had this type of command in college and it will be interesting to see how he handles it.

Wouldn't you want as much money as you could get for your employees? Only natural, think buying a car, have you ever payed sticker price?
