I think we need to remember that 6 million is just a drop in the bucket compared to what our donors can gather.

I wonder if our university making this commitment of money will be followed by some large donor contributions...

where there any other developments besides what has already been posted in cliff notes? Don't remember seeing if Boro, Jay, or DTO have said anything...at this point...I guess there's not much more to be said but timeline developments...saw where some where saying Nov. 30th

Sounds to me like Hart told Cheek..."Look, for years we donated bug money to the University....more than any other SEC team. We now need some of that investment to flow back in the other direction. A loan if you will, until we can get the right coach in here and an energized fanbase."

I will bet it wasn't just Hart that told cheek.

From Jimmy Cheek...

SO the way I read this is that in order to satisfy certain factions in the BOT and donors, there was a need to pull the AD into the black as quickly as possible.

The AD kicks out the bug money and it gets replaced with new money from donors (my guess is donors who would not otherwise support the AD).

The 6 a year in the AD ensures that they show the ability to clear some accounts and, along with ESPN money, start rebuilding revenue.

With the AD financially stabilized, AD donors are more willing to bear some of the financial burden to sustain the new staff salaries until the new revenue is realized, revenue that is absolutely dependent on a Jon Gruden hire.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- As we face a transition in our football program, I want to make it clear that we support a mission of comprehensive excellence in our athletics department. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor and Athletics Director Dave Hart, we will do the things required to return our team to national prominence. As we begin our search for a new coach, I have assured Dave that he will have the support and resources he needs to be successful.

For the next three years, the money the athletics department has contributed to the campus will be reinvested in the athletics department. Relieving athletics of this commitment will allow the department to add an average of $6 million per year to its bottom line for a total of $18 million over three years.

The money was committed under different circumstances and we now need to allow athletics to use these dollars to attain financial stability and invest in the future.

Most of this money has been used for scholarships and fellowships. We will continue to honor these commitments, primarily through private gifts. Let me emphasize, we will not reduce our commitment to students.

I know that winning championships and competing at the highest level lifts the national profile of the University of Tennessee. As chancellor, I am committed to winning both on the field and in the classroom.

Words of a man with his job on the line. Money talks.

Of course it will. cheek has just been told quit robbing the AD when they don't have the money to give.

You know how I really knew we had Gruden??? When there was a reversal of the bat$hit crazies. Few years back the people saying Gruden's name sounded nuts. Now the ones saying it isn't sound nuts. I have heard everyone from Vince Lombardi to Jim Chaney thrown out there today.

This Cheek move...

It's caused me to buy-in to the hype. I'm definitely NOT all-in, but I'd say the prospect to sign Grudes is more likely now.

If you'll excuse me, I have some celebrating to do.

Chris Price from Inside Tennessee just said on The Drive that Gruden probably is part of the conversation but not a real possibility. Maybe he wasnt that negative but thats pretty much what he said....I say we arrange an "accident".

Someone's out of the loop.

To me, it was Boro, OldVol, Gman, JayVols and others who never wavered and kept saying to stay the course. Called the smokescreen before it happened. A big thanks to them, and to Jake also. His info this weekend picked my spirits up after the Vandy fiasco.

Ok, the cliff notes are blowing up. Is this for real or is this a Grude drill?

I can't force myself to believe it yet.

Who is this Haskew guy and how reliable is he? The fact that he named names is really intriguing to me.

boosters!!!!!

Dooleys pay is 5 million over three years, he would of gotten 7.5 million. That frees up 2.5 million over three years (800 thousand per year) which is Sal's pay. I expect some of the coaches to be retained especially hinshaw and graham who was identified by Hart to be in charge of recruiting. The rest of the money needed will come from donations to get the coach needed.
Second scenario is worse case scenario is 9.3 million over three years for all coaches relieved, three million per year. University giving back 6 million a year frees up an extra 3 million a year for salaries above present pay. That would put you in the ballpark to pay 5 to 6 million a year for a new coach.
