Does anyone recall any recent coaching searches that didn't involve a searching firm? How unusual is that, or is it?

Also, if one of our coaching targets is currently coaching a team that will be playing in a bowl, how would all that work? Can Hart contact the coach as long as he has permission from the coaches AD or is a coach completely restricted from talking to other schools until his season is finished?

Basically, would a sitting coach be allowed to speak with Hart re interest or would that have to be handled through agents or whatnot?

Coaching search firms allow for plausible deniability. Sounds like we may have someone in mind.

Watching your team disintegrate and seeing the 60k empty seats at Neyland next week are very powerful motivators.

i meant actually people and numbers.

aka

Haslem= lets say 10 mil
Peyton= (rumored) 15 mil
AD's contribution =
Schools=
Boosters that are not Haslem, Ergen, Manning, Thorton.

Exactly, they'll come up with the $ imo. Where do people think the $ came from for the new football complex? It dang sure didn't come out of the university or AD budget.

According to Jon Brice of VolQuest.com, the three names that most fans want to discuss are Jon Gruden, Jimbo Fisher and Al Golden. The site has a full list of potential candidates if those three do not pan out.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden is the guy Tennessee fans want.
Brice said that no matter the hire, it needs to happen quickly.

"Gruden is the hottest name right now, and he hasn't done anything to quell those rumors," Brice said. "But for this to be a success, the program needs to have a coach in place before the end of the December evaluation period. There has already been a de-commitment, and a couple of guys have been taking visits and looking around.

"For a so-so recruiting class to begin with, there isn't a lot of room to lose guys."

Golden is being discussed because no one wants him.

i could agree with that to some extent. I think Hart has played it close, but at the same time, i worry that he is not committed to the university as many think. seems like these challenges are going to be tough to overcome, and he is doubting Cheek's commitment to bringing UT to the SEC elites.

I got the impression that the hurdles will be overcome, in other words, Cheek may be the one on the ropes. Who knows what was "really" discussed behind closed doors with the BOT. Hart sure seemed confident during the presser.

It was obvious Hart was trying to "politize" the problem between the two entities. I'm glad he did, but was very surprised. It's very telling when a statement starts with putting out the character of someone else without someone asking. No one every asked what kind of person Cheek was, but Hart just went ahead and "told" us how he was.

When are you guys gonna pull the trigger?

The overwhelming majority of aubs wonder why it has not already happened. AU is a bit more complicated than UT. The Auburn AD is also on the hotseat and it appears our idiot President will make the decision.

Most think now that chiz is gone after the Bama game, which will be a drubbing. My source who is close to AD staff said it has already been done but announcement awaiting season conclusion.

Hence, my reason for thinking that Cheek is the one on the ropes. With the info that skeet and LWS have been putting out, it's apparent that Cheek is a problem. Perhaps it took a man of Harts caliber to finally get the BOT's attention. Just my 2cents.

EDIT - just wanted to add that after seeing the presser today, I have a lot more faith in Hart and that he will do everything in his power to put UT athletics back on the tracks.

I really like Hart. I think he will do what's necessary for us to get back. He is seasoned in the profession. I sincerely hope he won the battle against Cheek and continues to. Football has to be a priority at UT. Absolutely has to be.

Exactly. You posted before my edit went up, but we are on the same page.

Wait a minute.... You said earlier that you did not think Hart was as committed as he would like us to think...
