2013 NC WR Marquez North (UT signee)

What about the end around BS he loves to call? What about the no WR screen rule? How about after the run gets stopped a few times he loses all hope in the running game? And my biggest problem is this, he'll call a great aggressive game 1 week and the next week he calls a scared game like he doesn't know what he's doing. I want an aggressive offensive coordinator that goes after a defense all game. Also one that doesn't frog up down in the redzone or in critical 3rd and 1 situations.

Maybe that's CDD's decision? Maybe that's another reason we need a different HC?

I've stated some of Chaney's issues, but I think the issues with the HC and DC far outweigh Chaney's.

AJ is better than Hunter. Jones is better than Hunter. Hunter is not a guy people will trade up for like Atlanta did for Jones. He will not go as high as Green did. Hunter is not that guy. He has not shown that type of ability. If he leaves this year he will not go as high as they did. It is not all about stats. The numbers can be inflated. If anything, Hunters stats this year are inflated. I think he has 1 score in three years against UF UGA & UA. Impressive stuff. He has been a game changer against Troy and Georgia State. Got to give him credit for that. Meachem 2.0 in my opinion.

I tend to agree. Hunter is not a physical guy and avoids getting hit at every opportunity. Once CP learns route running he will be unreal.

Do you think Chaney's play calling would change if he had a power back? I know he is pass happy, but we don't exactly have a back that we can rely on to pick up the tough yards.

I disagree with this. You are always clamoring that CP gets more touches, and the end around is a great way to get him touches. He's got to be averaging about 10 yards/carry on the end around. Doesn't seem like a fair criticism of Chaney. JMO.

i'm with you - CP is a great athlete that has real problems running routes - seems like end rounds are a good idea to get him touches

wasnt aware that play couldnt exist in an aggressive offense - in fact it seems like a pretty aggressive play if you ask me - it has the chance of losing 6-8 yds and the chance of making big gains - just not a coherent critique of Chaney

How hard is it to raise up and throw a screen out to CP? He's good enough to throw zombie screens(No block 1v1 isolation on the CB) to. Tunnel screens should be in play with this big athletic line leading the way. There are also different ways to run the option. Using the wildcat option and bring CP back against the formation would be nice to add into the playbook.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of your points here, I was simply pointing out that criticizing Chaney for calling the end arounds to CP seems unfair because it's an easy way to get the ball in CP's hands and it has been relatively successful. JMO.

I still want King/AJ running the triple option with CP. I don't know why that's not a staple of the play book. That would be a nightmare for a defense to stop in short yardage.

Too many non-ball handlers handling the ball, IMO. Think about how many times the three of these guys have to re-position the ball when just taking a traditional snap or hand off.

With practice, however, it could've potentially been very dangerous.

When they ran it this year it looked good. King was an option qb in high school, so I would defer more to him.

True. I'm just thinking about AJ often having to re-secure the ball when in the Beast formation or CP double catching his tosses/handoffs. Definitely would defer to King.

There is very little reason to complain about UT's offense this year. It doesn't matter if we throw it around every play, but these deep bombs on 3rd and short have got to STOP. Championships are won on the ground and on defense. The passing game just adds another element that makes teams unstoppable.

Traditionally, I'd tend to agree with you but I think the NFL of today is a testament that there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Yeah my Packers beat the Steelers without a real running game.

Saints, Colts, Patriots, Packers...all have won without a real running games or defenses. It's amazing the NFL has shifted from a league of running backs and great defenses to almost exclusively a QB league. These d@mn new rules implemented for safety.

Bk to North though, Hopefully, he's one of the first offensive calls that's made if/when...

The NFL is a completely different animal these days compared to college football and especially the SEC. Its is very hard to compare the two, which also is making it harder to scout NFL prospects correctly.

Both are copycat leagues and the SEC is considered the premier league for NFL scouting so I disagree.

The NFL also has much more stringent illegal contact and pass interference rules.

In college You can clutch and tug and bump WRs all the way down the field as long as the ball isnt in the air.

the SEC is not a replica of the NFL

Come on man, the SEC is the "premiere" place for NFL scouting due to physicality in the trenches and defenses, not because of elite passing games.

My biggest complaint about the end around was that early in the year, any time we lined up in that bunch formation you knew CP was getting the ball on the end around. As the year went on though, Chaney started mixing it up more with hand offs to the RB and play actions.

I still can't understand how he hasn't had a single WR screen thrown to him all year though. CP is made to catch a tunnel screen with blockers in front and just do work.

Where did I or anyone else say that the SEC was a replica of the NFL?

I said both were copy cat leagues in that they steal ideas, practices, and even coaches from one another all the time. If something is done successfully in one league, the other has a good chance of implementing it. Hell, we even saw Les Miles' dumb over the shoulder to the kicker play trying to be implemented in the NFL. The reason more colleges are implementing the 3-4 is because of the success that teams have and had with it in the NFL.

I even noted the difference in rules in another post in a thread.

My point was that just as the NFL has shifted the college game will attempt to play catch up and change the rules and ultimately the game play will change as well. This yr alone the level of physicality that players have been allowed to play with has decreased. Please don't tell me that there's only one way to win.

Yup it's a different game..

This kid must really want to be a vol. I think that no matter what happens as long as we hire the right coach North will be a vol. Paul Harriss and Marquez North will be awesome hires.
