Was just having a convo at work here in NYC with a fellow Tennessee alumn (there are few of us here). We were discussing the talent on this year's team and the number of starters (offense and defense) that we think will be drafted into the NFL off this team. I think that number could be as high as 10 (Bray, Patterson, Hunter, 5 O linemen, McCullers, and AJ Johnson). I'm not an NFL guy, though, so not sure if I'm the best talent evaluator.

The big picture point we were discussing is that there is no excuse for why we are worried about beating Vandy and why we are staring down another losing season. Even 'Bama, when it was wondering in the desert, would pop off an occasional 10 win season when they accumulated the talent we had this year.

What are your thoughts? My guess of 10 way too high?

10 is too low. Of the current roster, at least 15 will be on an NFL roster at some point.

Interesting. I thought 10 was pretty high, but I could see those other guys too. Didn't think about Randolph and Z Rogers. I could see Mychal Rivera, though I guess I've read people think he's undersized for the NFL.

Maggitt looks like a star at times - really wish he could avoid the injury bug. I want to see him play fully healthy.

Yeah, disappointing. Short of it is, our optimism headed into this year was not misplaced.

Bray
Hunter
Cp
5oline
Rivera
Aj john
Maggit
Meccullers
Maybe randolph

I agree with this list. Zach Rogers could get a FA contract.

I'd like to think that a young guy might develop into a draft pick over the next few years. Someone like Marcus Jackson. We won't know for a while though.

Slots wrs are a dime a dozen so he will really have to make an impression on a team

I don't exepect him to make a team. But after this past season, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he gets a FA contract.

I feel he deserves a chance at make a team for sure, if he gets a combine invite and is fast enough in the 40 could be a 6th or 7th round pick imo.

I little bit of what has been said today regarding Harts thinking of Coach Dooley. Hart has been very upset since the Bama game. The final 40 secs of the Mizzou game upset him as well and made him realize Dooley doesnt have that killer instinct. Under no scenario will dooley be back as coach next year.

We knew he was all but done, but today is the first time we've heard that 100% Dooley will not be back as long as Hart is the AD at Tennessee. The players are aware, but believe it or not the team really likes Dooley and have hopes of making a bowl game. The players heads seem to be on straight and seem to be practicing well. Hopefully the distractions dont affect them and they play well.

Thanks skeet! The smoke on Gruden is getting thick again. Any idea if there is fire to this rumor?

Smart is not the guy in charge of the Bama defense. Sure you can say that he's been in the mix during the tough games but there is no doubt that Saban is making all of the most critical calls. Smart's main role for the Bama staff is to recruit the state of Georgia. He's a great recruiter and has plenty of connections is this state.

Smart is making the calls. Saban finally gave him the keys a few years ago. This comes from people actually inside the program.

I think Manny Diaz is a good young coach and has done good things at MTSU, Miss St. & Texas. However not sure I would be in favor of bringing him to UT

So this is the official he won't be back. Now lets win the last two, win a bowl game and bring in a proven head coach to get us back to where we belong.

Good update, Skeet. I agree on Dooley and the lack of a killer instinct. I've been more patient than most with him, but that to me is one of his glaring weaknesses. I think that not only affects his decision-making, but it permeates his team as well.

Give this team a coach with a killer instinct and we win 9-10 games. I'm convinced.

Butch Davis is the best talent evaluator I've seen. Would love him at UT. PR wouldn't be fun though.

I actually agree that he is one guy that rivals or could be considered better than Saban as a talent evaluator. He doesnt have a problem with buying players either, something you definitely need in this conference to challenge the big boys.

This is not a callout of any "insiders" but it is absolutely crazy how wide apart they all are on how the team feels about dooley. Some say they are rejoicing he is gone and others say they are playing out the stretch for him. I'm sure it's in the middle but it just boggles the mind how diverse the opinions/stories about Dooley are.
