1.) Message boards have a way of causing mass delusion and groupthink, so tempered expectations is something that is needed at a place like this.

Also, when has he been wrong when he tempered expectations? To say that we shouldn't expect more than 7-5 in 2012? Or that the OL would really struggle in 2011? Tempering expectations is something we all should do much more of, IMO.

2.) OCI was DEAD ON in reference to CP. From day one.

Maybe we should have a permanent insider scoreboard here. I'm not volunteering as I'm way too busy, but it would be fun to compare predictions over the years.

I was not referring to tempered expectation. I was referring to his information that he has provided. He hedges to try not to be totally wrong. I am not saying it is wrong because I would do it too. But he doesn't come out and state in absolutes.

lol you want nothing to do with BOB STOOPS but like Derek Dooley, are you a Bama AD guy LMAO! TROLL.. DOOLEY SUCKS!!!! worst coach in SEC HISTORY AND UT HISTORY. JAMES FREAKIN FRANKLIN IS BETTER

Dude, GTFO with your attacks on skeet.

First, you're taking his posts way out of context.

Second, you're a total douche.

Good day.

Are you trying to be one of the dumbest posters on this board? Nowhere has anybody said what you are trying to say that skeeter said.

Yes he has. As of earlier today he said he could see us going to $5-$6 mill a year but not $7 mill for Gruden.

About 6 weeks ago he said if Dooley was replaced UT would have or would only spend about 1.8 mil. on a coach.

Will not be smart! I said same thing when ss was brought in!! Hart was setting it up for smart but that was a train wreck so...now we will go bigger or hart will be on the street with his other 2 bama boys!!

I must have missed that then b/c what I've been reading from him lately is that UT would spend $6 mill on Gruden but he doesn't think Gruden would take the job.

He hasn't always said that. Just a month or two ago he was saying we wouldn't pay a buyout and we wouldn't spend anymore than 1.8 for another coach.

That is not what I said. This situation has been fluid to say the least, and he has said many different scenarios could happen. Certain things have happened in the last week that have given Hart more room to go get a big name. From what I gather, LWS still doesn't think it is Gruden. The part bolded did change about the time of the Miss St/Bama loss.

It was about 4 to 6 weeks ago. I have read where he has backed off that as of late. Considering we are paying Dooley more than that now it didn't make any sense to me.

At one point he felt like 5 or 6 wins would get Dooley a 4th year as well. Im not sure if that was his opinion or something he was actually hearing.

Things have obviously changed on both fronts which has us in the game.

You know, hedging isn't a bad thing. I mean, who doesn't hedge in their life? You'd be crazy to treat most information as absolute.

Things change, and they can change quickly. What a lot of people don't understand is that most information, especially information dependent upon multiple major influences, is perishable and has an expiration date. When you're talking about situations that involve millionaires/billionaires, a state institution, and a football program with as much national attention as Tennessee, there are a lot of outside influences. If you DON'T hedge your position or consider that other alternatives existence, you're going to look like a complete fool.

Larry never looks like a complete fool. A lot of other posters on here do.

So, the moral of the story is this: Hedging is, generally speaking, a good thing. Not just on a message board, but in life. More people need to understand this.

Sorry for the lecture, but I just find it fascinating that a guy that rarely turns out to be wrong, is criticized for acting like his information isn't absolute.

Even Larry is coming around on us having the money to pay a big time coach...hmmm....wonder who that could be....?

I've never wanted you to be more right, OCI. Never. Not even with the biggest of recruits.

And I do believe the will is there from the boosters, and maybe even Hart.

However, I am NOT convinced that Gruden is ready to leave the NFL world for college. He'd be revered here, but he's already pretty revered every time a major college or NFL job opens up.

But, again, I've never wanted you to be more right than on this one.

I'm with you on wanting Gruden to happen. Paying a head coach an additional $3M to $4M a year pales in comparison to the money UT would benefit from making such a hire. We would make up the difference in a couple non-conference games via ticket sales and concessions. It's just simple math.

Gruden would pay for himself very quickly. I hope and pray it happens but we just need a good hire. I would like to get Patterson. That would be a solid hire that is very possible.
