Seriously. His batting average is better than everyone, with all due respect to The Oracle, Mr. skeeter33418. I've NEVER known LWSVOL to be wrong about something. He's always dead-on, from his August assessment of the team's chances to situations going on in the AD.

If LWSVOL says something, I believe it. The same players that got played in the Shannon deal are many of the same folks leading the Gruden charge, including SBV and DocVol, both of whom I respect. I do not believe them to be intentionally misleading anyone. But the fact that someone knows a booster, or even a couple, doesn't mean they're right. Believe it or not, the boosters don't make the decisions, even though they have influence. At the end of the day, if a coaching hire is forced upon an AD and doesn't pan out, it's the AD's livelihood and reputation at stake, not the boosters.

So here's a little advice. Temper your expectations. When LWSVOL speaks, you listen, even if you don't like what he has to say. He's not flashy nor very eloquent, but he has loads of wisdom and insight into the program. And when other's dismiss his opinion by saying he's not as connected as he used to be, just wait. He'll be right and they'll be wrong.

These are my observations on insiders. There are two that I trust implicitly. The Oracle (skeet) and LWS.

LWS has also been the one saying watch for Kirby Smart for months now. He was even saying it back in the Spring.

Larry repeatedly said we would never offer any big time coach the money and that no one of note would even consider. He has said this time and time again. He stated the boosters wouldn't put up the money to get rid of Dooley.

I do believe he has reversed course, but you, of all folks on the board, should understand the term "fluid situation."

And, OCI, I think you bring great entertainment value to the board. But, IMHO, I think you're a really savvy poster more than an insider. Would be really cool if you are as connected as you claim, I just don't buy it. I'm not attacking you, as you add much more to the board than I do, and I actually appreciate it. But I think your "insider" shtick is just that...A shtick.

But you're definitely knowledgeable on the program and have a passion for it, regardless of what I think about your insider status, and people flock to your posts. So I'm not one to criticize someone that has so much influence here. I find it pretty interesting and entertaining, so please don't be too offended at my post. I wouldn't keep returning to the site if I wasn't entertained.

Larry is money but he is the type of guy that tempers expectations so that he has no way of being wrong sometimes. No disrespect at all but posters on here such as OCI gained my respect by something as small as telling us how good CP would be. Normally we would hear that and it would be an exaggeration but they were dead on and Larry would never go out on a limb on a prediction so these Gruden guys may just hit on this one. JMO

I could be wrong but I think LWS originally said that UT would not pay big money for a coach and then came back and said he was told that they would. I was a member on VQ for 10 years, and LWS is solid. He is a great poster and has a lot of insight. I do think that he hedges his bet however. He covers himself in case the info is wrong. But Larry is solid.

I seriously hope we can get someone better than Smart, the last thing I want is another unproven Saban disciple.
Its impossible to evaluate a coach on the staff of a great coach, just like trying to evaluate a player on a great team. You will never know if that person is good or they were able to mask their inability to preform with all the real talent around them.
I just can't picture any big players jumping to come play for Smart or the fans being motivated to come out and fill the stands. Unless he led us to a national title in 3 years we would probably be right back where we are now. Bad recruiting and coaching change rumors swirling all over the place
A proven coach fans would know what they have done, know its possible for them to do it and would be willing to give them more time to do it here.

you keep speaking of keeping Dooley lol, PETRINO would COACH CIRCLES AROUND DOOLEY so unless Hart wants to end up on the unemployment line as well then he needs to hire the best availalbe, even if it's PETRINO just win baby. Auburn will get him if we dont

1.) Message boards have a way of causing mass delusion and groupthink, so tempered expectations is something that is needed at a place like this.

Also, when has he been wrong when he tempered expectations? To say that we shouldn't expect more than 7-5 in 2012? Or that the OL would really struggle in 2011? Tempering expectations is something we all should do much more of, IMO.

2.) OCI was DEAD ON in reference to CP. From day one.

Maybe we should have a permanent insider scoreboard here. I'm not volunteering as I'm way too busy, but it would be fun to compare predictions over the years.

Larry was right on our record this year but without our historically bad defense which no one could predict or breaks going our way we could have easily won more games. He is a great poster and i would not bet money on Gruden but sometimes great things happen. I am positive and i have faith that we will get a great hire regardless if its gruden or not.

I wasn't saying anything negative about Larry. And thanks for the kind words...I've been called a lot of different things but never a savvy poster. I'll take it as a compliment.
