Two reasons:

1. Dave Hart apparently wanted Dooley back for a 4th season.

2. Several influential people close to the program wanted to fire him sooner than later because other programs were looking for coached.

That leads me to believe that UT has done NOTHING in the way of looking for a new coach, let alone drawn up any freaking contracts with Gruden, like what was reported all over this board.

Dooley being gone is fantastic, but I'm not sure about the future at all now.

This stuff is nonsensical and inaccurate. It's likely being distributed by the AD to throw people off the trail.

My opinion Isn't based on him for sure. I have no idea about his credibility. The guys you keep mentioning were all over Ainge and his info when it agreed with them. Now they are claimig he is wrong and/or part of a smoke screen. I just think his info along with posters like carter have info that is more recent than theirs.

Statements made that way are so vaig they allow him to retain credibilty anyway it goes. If JG does not come, he can say "I told you" if he does come he can say I mean you don't get Jon you want get Jay...

Plain talk is easy understood ................. jmho

I see your point, however I dont think there are any "smoke screens" or "throwing off the trail". Everyone in the UT nation expects Gruden. Its not like their hiding a secret that nobody expects.

But what if Gruden doesn't want to be hired until December? And what if he doesn't want it to look like he had any part in Dooley's dismissal? What leaked about Gruden was unintentional, IMO. The enormity of the news was the fuel.

Maybe the eagles can hire Buddy Can't Hack-it as their DC. I don't want to see another coach take that underachieving team and win. End of an era (of futility)
