I see it this way. If the university keeps Dooley until the end of the season, they either
a) have a coach lined up who isn't ready to take over. 
b) will fire Dooley at the end of the year before beginning a coaching search. (incredibly stupid, given the other schools that have/will have pulled the trigger already)
c) are keeping Dooley around until the end of the season, but are in the process of a coaching search, using back channels. (If this is the case, what's the point of keeping the firing a secret?)
d) plan on keeping Dooley next year. (highly unlikely, and grossly shortsighted) 
If nothing happens between now and the end of the season with Dooley, A. to me is the most likely. C. is possible as well, considering that the administration might not want it to become a circus. I don't see B. or D. likely at all.
