Official Jon Gruden Thread VI

IIRC Gruden's contract prevents him from coaching in the NFL til 2016 due to information he has access to at MNF. Its a small clause, so its probably been overlooked by the "experts" at ESPN that dont do their research and just know hes calling some NFL assistants. The vote today was big, it changed Harts boss from Cheek to a more athletically inclined person, a VP with assistant AD experience. This allows Hart to take the University control clamps off the program through his boss, giving Gruden the control he wants. It pretty much took Cheek out of the equation. Boosters have the money, the university has green lit the control, now its just a matter of handling the PR. Theres a reason all the Gruden to NFL talk is lighting up NOW, Gruden is one of the best at smoke and mirrors in the media. Soon, Grudenites, keep the faith.

Smart person here, listen.

Did today do anything to change the academic side to all this?

Klein may go before Barkley, but the list wasn't a ranking but a sampling of the QB's that could go out. Klein and Barkley will both go top 5. Wilson will go Top 15. Doege, Glennon, Bray, Murray, Jones and Price are in the group that I think will all need the combine for various reasons. And then it will determine where they will fall, but IMO no more than 4 QB's will be taken in the first round. And that would leave Doege, Glennon, Bray, Jones, Murray and Price fighting to be that guy. JMO...

Note: Klein is Tebow with better football IQ and a better NFL arm.

Geno Smith is projected high by some.

I really want a guy with UT ties...I know Grude's not an Alumni, but he seems to be the only real qualified guy that fits that mold for me, everyone else is just another potential ex wife.

Great analogy. Im sure we could get a coach who might get us there sometime in 3-5y, but I want the guy who will put the UT name out into the stratosphere.

Yeah, anybody, but Dooley, then theres nobody but Gruden IMO.

Lex said earlier today that he was not sure we could get Gruden, but until Gruden tells us no he is still Gruden

I agree with that post

Not true. From my understanding the ammendment today did not change Dave Hart's boss at all. It simply formally changed the reporting structure for the AD development office from the foundation to the VC for Development and they'd been operating under that assumption already.

Hart still works for Cheek and will until he's something other than a Vice Chancellor.

So, the BOT meeting was a big nothing, is that what I've understood?
I was expecting it to fundamentally reshape the direction of Tennessee football. Sounds like it made tweaks around the edges instead?

I hope you did not get that from my post? I thought the BOT meeting was a Big win for all Vol fans everywhere

Yea definately, I left him off by accident. Had it not been for the TX Tech and KSU games he would be right behind Wilson going Top 20. Now I think he joins Bray, Wilson, Murray,Jones, Glennon and Doege...

Kiper still has Smith ranked as his #14 overall player on his big board.

That is what I took from it as well, but the money issue is big. When Cheek is your boss and controls your revenue there is no accountability for his actions. Now with money going one way and Cheek not controlling it, it makes things easier. The meeting was basically pulling the wool over Cheek's eyes...

No it likely came from mine...and the latter depends on the perspective, as we are starting see by the incoming posts.

I will go with being reassured after this small discussion.

BTW Coasty, thx for the FR! Youre my first...LOL.

what the amendment today did...if I understood correctly was moved the money.... If you hold the purse stings, it does not matter who is listed as your boss... money talks.... jmo

Also not true. The Vice Chancellor for Development is still under the Chancellor's office . . . .

You have to crawl before you can walk.

A lot of people forget that big universities act as big corporations, all changes however small take time to manipulate through the chains of command. This process could last 2-3 years, but ultimately it will make the system better and more efficient for it...
