If this proves true, he will be back. I just think in terms of NFL potential you are underrating him.

I agree he has a lot of potential that scouts drool over, but so do the other guys...

Here's the break down of QB's taken last year by round

1-4
2-1
3-2
4-1
5-0
6-1
7-2

There were a total of 11 taken and if you go with his latest rating he falls 6th or 7th in the QB class. If you follow the trend from last year (which I know drafts differ, but this was the most QB's taken in 4 years) it would put him at the 3-4 rounds.

Thanks for that. So basically a formality that allows Hart to manage the money himself with approval from the Uni? Sounds like anything major still has to get approved, and total freedom (as imagined) for a big hire is still not possible.

from what I have read..... I only know what others post by the way... this was a first step, it is the money step, and I have always personally believed in the golden rule... he who holds the gold rules. So this may not land Gruden, but is a win for us all....jmo

I understand your logic, and with a smaller QB class such as after his senior year I would agree completely, but this year has a deep QB pool that is extremely top heavy.

Matt Barkley-USC
Colin Klein- KSU
Logan Thomas-Va. Tech
Tyler Wilson- Ark
Aaron Murray- UGA
Mike Glennon- NCSU
K. Price- UW
Landry Jones-Oklahoma
Seth Doege- TX Tech

Any of these guys could be argued as higher rated than Bray, I am probably forgetting some, but IMO Bray would be at best a late 3rd rounder...

- Barkley is probably the first QB taken.
- Klein is Tebow 2.0 he's not an NFL QB!
- Logan Thomas sucks!
- Tyler torched Glennon head to head!
- Not very familiar with Price or Doege but they are not in Tylers league as a pure QB.
- Could be a toss up between Wilson, Murray, Jones and Tyler.

Thanks for the info Coasty. Sounds like some more of the same ole same ole...IMO.

Ya'll poke me when something good happens...I'll go back to the corner with my booze and try and sleep it off...

Logan Thomas is garbage.
Wait until the combine results before ranking them. Bray is the best pure passer of the Bunch besides maybe Barkley.

Klein may go before Barkley, but the list wasn't a ranking but a sampling of the QB's that could go out. Klein and Barkley will both go top 5. Wilson will go Top 15. Doege, Glennon, Bray, Murray, Jones and Price are in the group that I think will all need the combine for various reasons. And then it will determine where they will fall, but IMO no more than 4 QB's will be taken in the first round. And that would leave Doege, Glennon, Bray, Jones, Murray and Price fighting to be that guy. JMO...

Note: Klein is Tebow with better football IQ and a better NFL arm.

Forget about Gruden for just a second. There are quite a few names that would be home run type hires. All is far from lost if by chance we aren't able to lure Gruden here.

You may be right, you may be wrong. Luckily I don't think we will know until next year, and by then it will be different names Bray will be going up against

I do agree that the decision today was a step in the right direction, I think Gruden (outside of Saban) is our best choice. But today was a good day no matter what else happens...jmho

tifwiw but I just got a text from a reliable source and it said Dooley sucks and should of already been fired. I trust my source.

"Tennessee Vols fans who are anxious for a coaching change are trusting Dave Hart to call upon all his experience and insight and make the correct decision.

Hart's fire/hire record with coaches at UT:

* He elevated Holly Warlick to Lady Vols basketball coach when Pat Summitt announced her semi-retirement.

* He hired Brian Pensky to coach the women's soccer team.

That's it."

I agree with all of this.

Edit: I would rather have Pete Carroll. That will never happen though

Great point, this year Bray came out ranked #7 in this year's QB draft. Next year his odds of being top 10 go up tremendously, just because there are not as many QB's going out next year. He would be ranked in the Top 3 to start the seaon...

Well, all joking aside, this is the JG thread...if I wanted to talk about other hires I'd haunt those threads...no offense.

I havent seen a name yet that would melt a recruits heart...sure, lots of strong coaching skills from some, nothing that would create an immediate impact that Grudes would.

Carry on...:hi:

Climer wasted time and bandwidth on this.

I do agree that there are other's who are home run hires, but there are home runs with bases empty and homeruns witth bases loaded.

Gruden is the bases loaded homerun, I would have to see the other name to asses how many was own base when we hit those ...LOL

IIRC Gruden's contract prevents him from coaching in the NFL til 2016 due to information he has access to at MNF. Its a small clause, so its probably been overlooked by the "experts" at ESPN that dont do their research and just know hes calling some NFL assistants. The vote today was big, it changed Harts boss from Cheek to a more athletically inclined person, a VP with assistant AD experience. This allows Hart to take the University control clamps off the program through his boss, giving Gruden the control he wants. It pretty much took Cheek out of the equation. Boosters have the money, the university has green lit the control, now its just a matter of handling the PR. Theres a reason all the Gruden to NFL talk is lighting up NOW, Gruden is one of the best at smoke and mirrors in the media. Soon, Grudenites, keep the faith.

A wise man once said................."What you will do eventually, should be done IMMEDIATELY". Just saying. Go Vols!

Great analogy. Im sure we could get a coach who might get us there sometime in 3-5y, but I want the guy who will put the UT name out into the stratosphere.

Yeah, anybody, but Dooley, then theres nobody but Gruden IMO.

So, the BOT meeting was a big nothing, is that what I've understood?

I was expecting it to fundamentally reshape the direction of Tennessee football. Sounds like it made tweaks around the edges instead?
