I would support Condredge to do anything with the university. He is a class act imo.

Class act yes....not the adminstrator of the type we need. He's a great ambassador, but by all accounts not a businessman if the level that job requires now.

We just accepted Omari Phillips, a 5 star player that Florida couldn't get in. How is our standard so much higher?

They aren't for some reason in the past couple of days people have taken this idea and run with it. If Vandy can get Brian Kimbrow into school there's no reason we admissions would be holding us back with any recruit.

If true then there's no way we'll get anyone worth their salt to come coach here while this is occurring. And certainly not JG.

I have to tell myself, every so often, that things in life are never as bad as they seem and never as good as they may first appear to be. I know VN is incapable of 'relaxing' or being rational. At the end of the day (or season) Dooley will be out and we will have someone more qualified to lead this program.

Everyone keeps saying that we have strict academic standards, but this doesn't make any sense to me. Yes, the university wants to protect its standards, but why are our graduation rates at 58%. 99.9% of the time when stringent academic standards exist graduation rates go up, because the quality of the student increases as well.

On one hand we say we are strict and on the other hand we seem to let several guys with known academic troubles in to play football and other sports. Can someone make sense of this for me, it just seems to conflict logic?

Of course there would be denials. Nobody knows whats happening, but something is happening. Nobody truly knows if the gruden is coming. People on both sides will deflect this, much like saban at Alabama.

More than meets the eye...its coming together...and also why we have had a delay in any coaching issue. Lay the foundation first, then build the mansion.
I don't think the AD situation changes soon, or as a result of this meeting. That is just my opinion. The Chancellor situation very well could however.

If there are barriers that are keeping us from getting Gruden, they need to be removed.

If Gruden doesn't want to come regardless...well there's nothing we can do about that.

IMO it sounds as if there are barriers that are going to keep this from getting done. Time to bull doze through em and get what we all want!

I've said Cheek was bad news from the get go...people said I was paranoid...this guy is a scum bag scamming UT out of money while destroying UT all over...not just athletically.

Damn - I have heard a lot of good things about him and his actions - sad we can't keep the good ones.

Would Cheek being out change that?

Don't know. I think he's pretty happy where he is.

You have to understand how big of an AD job this is now. The budget is huge, and the responsibilities are staggering. That ESPN/SEC contract really changed the job description. This is big business that requires a CEO now, not a good ole boy, or a rookie AD.

My personal problem with Fulmer as AD is two-fold.

1. I agree that he'd likely try to be too involved in the day-to-day football stuff instead of being an administrator. 1b: I don't know if he'd have the business acumen for AD either.

2. Every loss would be followed by uncountable calls for the coach to be fired and for Fulmer to step into the head coaching job. This would happen after every--single--loss. We have this now, and he's not even employed. Sounds like fun, right?

This isn't ill will toward Phil. I just think it's a political nightmare waiting to happen.

Among other things JUCO credits transfer to UT but not JUCO GPA. At most SEC schools and all the powerhouses the JUCO GPA is figured into the cumulative but not at UT. A JUCO transfer can maintain eligibility longer at most SEC schools with the same academic performance than they could at Tennessee.

Also C- at UT is not figured into your GPA in any class within your major, only "allowable electives" up to the amount of elective needed to earn a degree.

None of the SEC powerhouses have these standards except us and Vandy I believe. There are more, but those are the two big ones I remember.

When was the last time 102k watched a chemistry demonstration? I rest my case.

Dear football Gods please make Gruden come to Tennessee.
Amen

Agree, one of my customers is a UT Alum and is a big Republican fund raiser, and I was told during the Gov election, that if B. Hasslem was elected than Cheek would be gone by Jan. 2013.

Our biggest problem:

Chancellor: University of Florida
Athletic Director: Florida State/Alabama
Head Coach:Georgia/Alabama

We have tried to become someone else.

Major corporations don't always develop there own executives. In fact most encourage bringing in a diverse perspective. I'm not saying its working at UT, but having decision makers from other schools is not the problem. Their inability to communicate properly and stand behind one another is more likely the problem. IF there is a problem.

Problem is, the last few BOT members under Sundquist and Bredeson, have been horrible.

Haslam can't change this overnight.
