Official Jon Gruden Thread IV

I'm not even the person who brought this up. A little sensitive since the Gruden thing seems to be on shaky ground? Jesus

Yes you this is the second time in 2 or 3 days you somehow have stated something to the effect of "your level of education" or accusing people of being uneducated in a tongue in cheek way. Something about teeth too, super nice and friendly.

The only thing on shaky ground is your reasoning.

Probably already covered since I'm 2 pages late, but it has been talked about in terms of being one reason for the delay of any announcements. It's a legit question that can be worked out if both parties are interested enough in doing so. I have maintained that the interest exists and am very confident they will be worked out if they are a potential hiccup.

I have zero info in this area tbh. What I do know is that no UT coach that I'm aware of has had any personal endorsement deals. Doing endorsements for entities that have a corporate partnershil with the university are not individual endorsements.

Thanks...yeah, I looked up some stuff...the Corona deal is just an extension of the Corona/MNF deal that's been in place. It would likely just end when Gruden and MNF part ways.

The Hooters deal is in correlation with Gruden's FFCA. The Gruden/Hooters partnership donates proceeds from the sale of merchandise to highschool athletes. It's a pretty smart set up for Gruden. Still, I wonder how many Vol fans, particularly UT women employees, lady vol fans and others would view that partnership. I'm sure that could be worked with some way.

As you mention, most endorsements for UT coaches are run through UT channels.

Hooters aside, Gruden is a much different than the typical coach in that he is a national celebrity. It might be to UT's advantage to allow him a little leeway, but I'm totally out of my depth here.

Furthermore, did I not apologize for those comments. Jesus, people I said I was sorry.

Maybe you did. Just struck me as the same thing. If I was out of line I apologize for what I said but not for the message. Level of post secondary education has no bearing here, that's my point.

No doubt about it. I would take it all day, every day. I just want to play in the big games that they do. Just from an outsider, though, they seem to lose a couple of games each year that they could easily win. You have to take advantage of beating Texas though. They have had years when they lost to Colorado, Texas Tech, Missouri, Baylor, and BYU. Thoes teams don't have near the talent that OU does on a yearly basis. But, as I stated, college football is tough. You have to keep getting and developing the players. Stoops is a great coach though, and I have nothing real negative to say about him.

My motto is that I would rather get there and lose, than to not get there at all. They are at least in the conference and national championship mixes on a routine basis; whereas we have been relegated to sniffing Kentucky and Vandy's a$$e$.

Agreed..

Gruden gives us a chance to even WIN an SEC and NC while he's here.

Amen! What we wouldn't give for a 9 win season and a major bowl game.

right now I would just love to see a 8 win season .500 don't cut it

Original Legend of Zelda was the shiz! Castlevania was a good game too. Lots of levels, not easy to beat.

Agreed on both. I can remember the first time I played both like it was yesterday. Good times.

Over/under on days (30) until Gruden is named coach. I'm taking the over.

I have been trying to stay away from this thread as I don't believe Gruden is coming here but Iam curious if spring brok vol has commented anymore on his prediction?

Not really, just said there really isn't much more to add and that he still stands by his original statement that Gruden is our next head coach.

Boro, I posted this earlier but wanted to get your thoughts on it:

"Gruden's extension, which goes into effect in September 2012, includes a provision that he will stay out of coaching through the new contract [with MNF]." This is from an article about Gruden's new contract at MNF.

I don't have the entire contract, but this states that Gruden will stay out of coaching through the end of his MNF contract.

What it means is that he will not coach and do MNF AT THE SAME TIME. There almost certainly is a termination provision in the contract, and I would bet money that it includes an out if he wants to coach again. Once the contract is terminated it is "ended" and he would not be in breach by coaching.

This clues me in as to why there can be no announcement at this time. He cannot be announced as anybody's coach until after he completes this season at MNF and terminates the MNF contract.

Now, he could go to MNF for a waiver, but that probably is more trouble than it is worth.

So hows things looking? I see its back to iffy for Gruden. Went to the Cliff notes thread and nothing negative. What gives? We still hearing good things

It makes sense to me. Honestly, I hold the belief that there is more involved in this hire than we have had to deal with before. I try not to question the information that is given to me, which admittedly is broad stroke in nature.

That being said, I, like a couple of others here believe as I have since I was first told three weeks ago. Dolley is gone....now we know at the end of the season. The HC job is Grudens. I am 100% on that. Anything can happen I guess, but I believe we've crossed the point of no return.

And I apologize if I come off that way. I wasn't the one who brought it up today, since I had already apologized to Jay and the board two nights ago for the comments. It is not my intention, but the guy was calling me out for not being a supporter of Ron Paul since I "had a plethora of degrees". And I was supposed to do what?

It's not iffy....somebody was citing info from Rucker and Swain on the radio. It's all smoke. When Dave Hart wants Rucker to have an opinion, he'll give it to him.

The entire situation is under control and cruising to a glorious completion.

Goat...obviously I'm not a doctor...I do health admin for recovery clinics. Do you have a doc that would write you some clonidine and phenergen? That will take the edge off. Make sure you stay hydrated.
