Single biggest plus for Gruden and it honestly outweighs what any other coach could bring to the table is name and face recognition and the impact that will translate to recruiting. That he hasn't coached in some time makes it even better because there is nothing to really associate recently as a negative. Bottom line as long as the guy can bring in assistants to pound the pavement for him and let him simply close the deal the talent advantage alone he would bring should offset whatever scheme weakness he might or might not have. Honestly if he cannot close a top 5 class (nationally) at UT and top 3 by year 2 he's doing something horribly wrong.

The one thing I wish we would discuss in here is who people think the DC will be. That to me is his biggest job on day one.
It might be Rahim Morris. I think it's a shame that Kevin Steele had a bad bowl game against WVU (who has made a lot of teams look bad since then), and now he's perceived to be toast. Was as good DC for a long time.

Heard multiple names thrown out there (speculation of course) - Morris, Steele, Zook are the ones more than anyone else. Lord knows Gruden has a laundry list of names he could pull from.

I would've given you the N64 and probably still have Zelda somewhere...

are they sought after or collectors items?

and still haven't seen a reference to Tecmo Bowl yet...

ESPN NFL analyst Jon Gruden stunned the college football world today by obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order against the University of Tennessee fanbase and administration. After repeatedly telling Tennessee that he did not like them in that way and he would like to simply remain friends, Gruden was forced to obtain a restraining order to prevent the Vols fans from further stalking him. Stalking Jon Gruden
According to message board rumors running wild; Tennessee had already “sacked” current Head Coach Derek Dooley following an unprecedented run of 15 straight defeats against ranked opponents.
The Vols have won just three games this season – which came at the expense of some formidable competition – but in the Conference they are without a victory.
And with the arrival of former Alabama assistant Sal Sunseri as the Vols D-Coordinator over this last season, Dooley’s future had been in doubt.
Tennessee’s 2011 defense gave up 271 points. This defense already has given up just as many in four fewer games. It also has given up 211 points in five SEC games — or 10 more than the 5-7 team of 2008 team gave up in its entire dreadful season. [John Adams: 3-5 start, 3-4 scheme two more things UT can't defend »
Dooley’s apparent departure follows that of seven former Tennessee assistant coaches, who left following Dooley’s hugely successful 2011 campaign.
However, in a twist to the story, Volquest.com tweeted: “Don’t know where the media got that from but can confirm Dooley is STILL employed by the University of Tennessee.”
An Athletic Department statement was then released, saying: “The University of Tennessee would like to place on record that Derek Dooley has NOT been dismissed by the University.”
Tennessee faces the second best team in Alabama, Troy University, in Knoxville on Saturday.

Probably not all that funny. Thought I would post it anyway.

Flame away..

For me Steele's bigger issue is the health concerns especially at critical times/games. If those are real that should IMO absolutely rule him out as a coordinator. Hate that for him but you can't not trust one of your most critical team members in clutch moments.

Here is something I poseted in another thread, but it explain why the announcement will be delayed. Boro or one of the others might want to weigh in:

"Gruden's extension, which goes into effect in September 2012, includes a provision that he will stay out of coaching through the new contract [with MNF]." This is from an article about Gruden's new contract at MNF.

I don't have the entire contract, but this states that Gruden will stay out of coaching through the end of his MNF contract.

What it means is that he will not coach and do MNF AT THE SAME TIME. There almost certainly is a termination provision in the contract, and I would bet money that it includes an out if he wants to coach again. Once the contract is terminated it is "ended" and he would not be in breach by coaching.

This clues me in as to why there can be no announcement at this time. He cannot be announced as anybody's coach until after he completes this season at MNF and terminates the MNF contract.

Now, he could go to MNF for a waiver, but that probably is more trouble than it is worth.

My understanding is the timing for an announcement is in Grudens hands, and any delay in doing so is at his request more than a UT AD decision.
