Question about recruiting

Since Gruden is not an employee of any university, would it be against the rules for him to call a recruit or a recruits coach and build a relationship?

Just my opinion, but I would assume yes, if he mentioned a particular school. So if he can't bring up a school what's the point?

To look like a creepo trying to build relationships with 17-18 year old boys. Would be so weird lol

Technically no, but this could be a problem if the NCAA investigated it and discovered that UT had a deal in place with Gruden while this contact was going on. Gruden doesn't need much time to make things happen. Remember, Dooley does not use many official visits during the season and saves most of them for January. This will be plenty of time for Gruden to sway the recruits he wants. Gruden's recruiting classes will be like Dooley's recruiting classes on steroids.

This has probably beed discussed before, but another plusfor Gruden come here is the instant recognition it gives us. I have read replys from recruits that said something like, 'I never gave Tennessee a thought', or no, they are not in my top 10 schools. I think now, we will be a consideration for a lot of these kids.

Could the personal reasons be as simple as Jon wants to coach college and Cindy wants to live closer to family.

I read an article where Cindy said something along the lines of, the only college team she'd be happy with Jon coaching is UT. Plus, they're finally building a house on land they've owned for years.

Everyone knows if mamma ain't happy....

..that everyone else's life will be a living hell.

For the rest of the season on MNF, Gruden needs to do the following while announcing:

1. At opening kickoff, proclaim "Its Football Time in Tennessee'

2. Following every TD, no matter who is playing, say "Give Him Six" or "Touchdown, Big Orange"

Do we know for sure that Cindy's mom still lives in Tennessee? I know that her father is deceased. At one point, there was a step-father in the picture. Not sure if he is still alive or what?

BTO posted last week, someone he goes to church with works with mom n law Gruden and said she confirmed Gruden was coming back to UT. Tifwiw

First - I am completely on board with Gruden. Second - do you guys see it as a PR issue if Dooley were to some how win out these remaining games and then announced that he is terminated? Does that have any impact at all in thsi situation - especially if nothing is "formal" unitl post KY?

Probably.
Florida took heat from people outside the program for firing Zook.
Alabama:Shula
etc.

People will say that we are being unreasonable. But its important for the program to establish our expectations as being hire than just being bowl eligible.

I wonder what our record would be this year with Gruden and the potential staff that's been brought up? My guess would be 6-2 or 7-1.I think Ala would have been a loss but UF, UGA, Miss St and SC could have been wins. I know it doesn't matter but outside of Ala even Dooley has us close to winning the others.

I would agree with that. Talent is there to win now, just needs some tweaking and a DC that can stop a fart in a whirlwind at a minimum! I think Bray would be thriving under old Gruden. Instead of "Yeah, Tyler knows that..." He would be getting "You are the leader. Take charge and act like it. We will all rally around you." Just different ways to approach kids and I think Gruden would have the right mojo, as did Dooley's predecessor.

My hope is that Gruden becomes so enamored with Tennessee that he is here for a long, long time. Good to know about the contract options. Thanks Boro.

I truly believe the reason he takes the Volunteer job is just that.... he is enamored with Tennessee. He got it in his blood in the 80's under Majors and it has never left!!!

I am confused, did this happen this past Monday or is this the call that was rumored to have happened a few weeks ago? Sorry, I am just confused about that.

I was just thinking yesterday about what role Majors would have in this with his ties to Gruden, I thought he would be all in. I believe they have maintained a relationship throughout the years and I think Majors even went to Bucs practice at some point, maybe pre-Super Bowl.

Monday as in day before yesterday and this was a call between one booster and Dooley not the conference call.

Or say, those endzones need cheggerboards!

If I heard Gruden say Give....Him....Six on MNF...then....

Paraphrasing something Gruden said in an interview earlier this year...

We come back to Tennessee often. Grandma likes seeing Cindy and the kids. We're building a house here and go out and plant a tree on the property every year.

If JG wasn't interested then all of these rumors would have been shot down by now. I think there will be an announcement sometime in late december. the last MNF game is dec 22, and out of respect I think he waits till then. JG has the itch to coach again and it will be awesome to seem him in a Tenn visor. GO VOLS

They need to announce the following day. Would be the perfect birthday gift for me :)

Why, because of the West Virginia game? Didn't he have a stroke or something before that game?

I just think both guys are proven DCs and in Zooks case he has been a HC for a decade now. I just don't see either taking a position coach job.
You mean the West Virginia scrimmage?

this is a point ive mentioned a few times in response to the "Gruden will only coach in the NFL" comments. nobody knows what his or his family's motivations are. his wife wanting to live closer to family, ALONE, could be the reason. good post DynaVol.

Thanks. This is what I assumed. I'm sure at some point he donated money to UT so he is technically a booster.

My only concern is players who make verbal commitments before the change. Sometimes it's tough to get those players to reopen their recruiting.
