This will become the prevailing consensus until after KY, then we will know for sure. We got a month till then Im predicting it wil lbe annouced in Official Gruden Thread XVI.

Well, I was told this today, and it lines up with what one of posters here told me shortly thereafter.. They don't want an interim coach, since Dooley knows his fate and seems to be on board with the program. Gruden will happen shortly thereafter. If we somehow go to a bowl someone currently on staff will coach it.

That would be an awful long time to keep this under wraps

First, I'm not a Gruden lover. Second, I don't dislike Dooley, I'm not uber confident in him as a coach on the sidelines. With that out of the way...

Lane Kiffin was was 5-15 (.250) when he was the HC w/ the Raiders. Obviously, he never made the play-offs. Gruden, with the Raiders went 40-28 (.594), made the playoffs twice. They were both, at the time of their hiring, the youngest coaches in the NFL. Both considered to be "genius" offensive minds.

Davis couldn't wait to get rid of Kiffin. Davis, on the other hand, demanded a lot from the Bucs to release Gruden from his contract. So much so, one might believe Gruden's demise with the Bucs was in part due to the price the Bucs paid. 2 first round picks, 2 second round picks, spread over three consecutive drafts. They also paid Davis $8 Million.

In that context, it's easy to understand why Gruden's first team went to the Superbowl and then declined. He took over a Dungy team that was not reaching it's potential, not meeting expectations, but the talent was there. After that, free agency, coupled with no draft picks, and lack of money to replace free agents...well.

As for Saban, he couldn't hack the NFL, same with Spurrier. Both of them had done well in college and wanted to test themselves in the pros.

I don't know how Gruden will do in College if he decides to go that route, but I know this...Saban isn't coming here, Spurrier isn't coming here and if you look at the top 25 right now, you gotta go down the list to around 10 and below for Strong, Peterson, Holgorsen etc...Doubt we could get Peterson, Holgorsen, Patterson...take your pick...Strong or Gruden...Tuberville or Gruden...Dooley or Gruden?

I had completely forgotten about the 4 picks they gave up - that is an excellent point as to why they started to trend down - honestly that was worrying me (not enough to not be excited, just tempering my excitement) so really good that someone either remembered or did the research to pull that little nugget out - 2 1st's and 2 2nd's is a huge deal and definitely helps explain the dropoff

Can't wait for The UF, UG's and USCjr.'s to start bit#hing about all the recruits we are stealing from them..HAHAHAHA!
To me...this is the No.1 reason why we should want Gruden to be the next HC here. I like Strong, Patterson....even Tressel and Wittingham, but Gruden is the only one who could cherry pick a bunch of Saban, Miles, Richt and Mushcamp's committed recruits...in this class!

It's not just about being a good coach, but having one that can diminish the talent level of his opponents roster, through recruiting.

will you ladies please stop B^##$*&% about texting and driving and let us know what your inside source says about Gruden coming to Kville?

I see you have your priorities straight.

"Who cares if people in this thread are texting and driving, rumors about a game are more important"

Neat.

The Dooley part is not under wraps aside from a formal announcement. We've known for two weeks he would not be back. The silence from the AD is deafening at this point. We aren't dealing with Mike Hamilton. If you don't formally dismiss your coach, there can't be a coaching search going on....right? It doesn't get much easier than that.

Good point. The silence has spoken volumes to me.
