As most anyone who has seen my posts over the past year knows (since the loss to KY), I've been one who has wanted to cut the cord, and get the HC'ing hire right....sooner, rather than later. I knew Hamilton had gotten us into a mess, hiring a prospect who had no measure of success to commend him to a job of this magnitude. Nevertheless, all the way up to the Bama game, I truly hoped Dooley could break through and prove us all wrong. Before the season started, I actually thought he had the talent to mask his shortcomings as a HC.

Had he been able to hold onto Wilcox, Peter Sirmon and Thompson, I still think he would have pulled it off. Losing to KY was the tipping point. Any how, I say all of that to make this point. Dooley tried, and it's time to move on....most of us agree on that. But please folks, during this time, let's not show our arses by making cruel, disparaging remarks and heckling the guy and his family at games. Let's show a little grace and act with a little dignity in this process.

Even though he is going to be financially rewarded for failing, it still has to be a gut wrenching experience for him and his family. We wouldn't want folks doing this to us, when we happen to fall short of a goal or expectation in our own lives. Let's temper our actions and comments from here on out...agreed?

There is no need to worry about that. Dooley will be our coach for another 13 months.

Yes, well stated Gunny! At this point, sadly, I agree. We might as well make the most of November. yolo

I don't believe that it was reasonable to think that he could have much success in terms of wins and losses in this short of a period of time, given the schedule, the roster he inherited, coaching turnovers, and the injuries to key players. I would love to know the real reason behind the coaches' flight.

Just win. Beat anybody. I don't care who anymore. Play well, win some fans back, get to a bowl and win it. Then, whatever happens, so be it.

I like Dooley and all but my lord I dont love him. He's a smart enough guy to understand that heckling and negativity comes with losing. I agree we should leave his family alone, but my goodness he's a grown man and if he cant take the heat he needs to get out the kitchen. If his feelings get hurt a little, he'll live.

My feelings get hurt just about every Saturday it seems.

Agree with the OP but in turn, lets not denigrate UT fans for calling a spade a spade. Dooley isn't a good coach and never should've been hired. Kippy Brown or someone else much more qualified should've been appointed while we conducted a proper coach search. In our haste to save one recruiting class we got stuck to the tune of $5mil with an unproven coach.

Coaches are fair game when it comes to criticism, it comes with the profession. That being said, wives and children are not. If I hear or see anyone mistreating a coaches wife or children because they are upset with the coach, you can bet I will get involved. That is totally unacceptable IMO.

You're right, I would hate being punished with 5 mil for failing. Not sure how I would recover.

Let's leave the heckling for Philly Eagle Fans to do. Vol Fans even on the collegiate level are classier.

I agree that the family should be left out of it, but Kiffins family were scared every step out of Knoxville due to upset fans. Seems a lot people put there anger in the wrong places and there is no excuse for it.

Ohhhhh woooo is me....whatever am I going to do about all these hecklers and people unhappy with me being ZERO for a career against ranked teams. Maybe I should grab the wife and kids and roll around in my fat stacks of cash I now have....or maybe we should ignite about $100,000 in a pile in the back yard and roast marshmellows and make smores.

It's kind of funny how people like to routinely slap public schoolteachers around for not doing their jobs, yet we have to watch out for the feelings of a guy making over 2 mil a year. If I made his salary I would let you throw bricks at my head AND call me a stupid mutha******! In the end, Dooley's getting the last laugh as he rides off into the sunset and another well-to-do subdivision.
That being said, we don't need to line up and heckle him - especially when his kids are near.

Gunny, you are asking for the impossible. Some people just don't have the capabilities to think instead of just emote. The same kind of people sent death threats to Jonathan Crompton, terrorized Dooley's kids, bashed players like Arian Foster, Erik Ainge, Zach Rogers, and too many other players to name.

The coaching situation will sort itself out. In the mean time, we have 4 more games to play and a bowl game to set our sights on. We have a recruiting class to sign and players who at least deserve our admiration for playing hard in every game this year. The decision is going to be made one way or another by Hart and all of the screaming, whining and bashing can only hurt the players and recruiting efforts.

But Gunny, some of these "fans" can't help themselves.
