Official Jon Gruden Thread IV

So anybody that said a Gruden deal was done, at this point, has to be treated as having zero credibility...

I would say that that rumor has to be given zero credibility.

I think the possible discrepancy that can save them is that a deal has been reached with the boosters that are fronting the efforts but not cleared through Hart's office.

I think there is a lot of legit smoke around Gruden, but at the very least all the i's and t's haven't been dotted and crossed.

That said, I'm very disappointed and somewhat worried right now. Thought today was the day.

I think the problem with no presser today isn't that we believe it means Dools is staying (I still believe he is gone regardless of when FWIW) its simply that in this fanbase that has such huge expections, there needs to be a confirmation of SOME kind of change, regardless of Gruden coming or not.

Most of these guys asking about a presser are just wanting a shot in the arm for God's sake...anything to salve the wounds...

Hey we found common ground!!!

If gruden doesn't happen I will appoint myself the president of the hire Bobby P campaign!

This should be your campaign poster:

Not sure why Kiffin would say anthing bad about UT. He got plenty of a$$ while he was here and the AD gave him everything he wanted. Whats not to love?

"We are going to wait..and we are going to wait on Jon Gruden" Basilio

This is a lot like dating. If you call a girl and she doesn't answer, and then you leave a message, she won't wait forever to call you back if she is interested. If Gruden has been sitting on a firm offer for as long as many on here have suggested, and hasn't accepted, his heart is not into the job.

On the flip side, if he had accepted and was excited about the job, he would want to tell people.

So, I have to agree with Basilio's blog at this point. An offer probably has been communicated, but they cannot get Gruden to commit to it. As a result, we are stuck with DD until we can get an upgrade coach to say yes. If that doesn't happen, DD might even be here next year, which utterly deflates me.

Saying anything is a done deal before anything is signed is dumb. Could still happen though, who knows.

If Dooley were fired, his whole staff would have been fired. If that were true then there would be no practice at all.

Move along..... nothing to see here.

I don't think that is true. Kiffin is the one who fired Chavis after he had taken the job. I believe coaches are fired individually.

No, because they always leave themselves an "out".

A couple days ago there was some anonymous person claiming to have sources that said the deal was definitely done.

But there will be a way for him to reclaim credibility somehow.

Its like watching an episode of the X-Files or watching Linus sitting in the pumpkin patch waiting for the great pumpkin (I dont mean Fulmer).

At this point, I have little faith Gruden will coach at the collegiate level.. And I'm so desperate for wins, I'm starting to reconsider my thoughts on Bobby P..

Me to. I think winning will cure all and there is no doubt that Petrino would win here.

Where would you have considered better?

To be clear, Gruden will be our next HC...just saying I think Petrino could have been a good hire.

I didn't realize failing to win or even compete for the SEC West, much less the SEC, made you the 3rd best coach in America.

I've always been on the Bobby P bandwagon FWIW. Prior to his fiasco at Arkansucks, I would have ranked him the #3 college football coach (behind Saban and Meyer).

Anyone that leaves a laminated note in their lockers that he's leaving as Head Coach, then bankrolls a younger woman and cheats on his wife deserves no respectful position at University of Tennessee.

Bingo, something to at least show they (AD) care about making things better.

Anybody who said that it would happen today? Probably.

I just don't remember anybody saying that today was the day except that one guy who said "Gruden 7 years, 40 mil presser at noon monday", but I don't think anybody took that seriously anyways.

I could be wrong, but it seems like everybody WANTED it done today, but nobody "SAID" it was today.

No, lots of folks said repeatedly that they were hearing the "timeline" was "the Monday after USCe"...thats why all the hype...

That ain't happening. I'm not sure of many things but Dooley NOT being here next year I'm sure of.
