Recruiting Forum: Football Talk II

No I didn't see him. Gray has passed him which isn't a surprise or slight to Bonner. Gray was a true sleeper after only playing HS football for 2 years I think. The boy is a very very good athlete and can run with any WR. When I first saw the kid's film I liked what he brought to the table.

SN: all that Wilcox talk is crazy. His defenses would've looked worse if we had been able to score in games last year. You guys forgot how Julio set a Bama WR record versus his cover 0. AM11 should've had 300+ passing yards against us in the UGA game. Against the same cover 0 no safety in the middle of the field. Mobile QBs still killed us with him too. Anybody remember how Chris Rainey ate us alive by himself for Florida last year? Cincinatti was more from players making plays than him calling a helluva a game. They were moving the ball but they couldn't get the 4th and shorts. Our last two D-coordinators have been not good at all. And Wilcox had his hands on the secondary too. And I watched them play terrible(no progress was made) with his stamp all over them.

I was hoping we'd line Gray and Coleman up on Sanders all game long no one else in the secondary could keep up with him imo. I feel like Bonner should see plenty of time in the next two games and if he impresses will get plenty more in the last two.

Strong is one of a short list of coaches that would immediately eliminate some of our natural recruiting disadvantages.

this. i still believe we lead for green, north, and crayton. i think he could really recruit well for us in florida.

I would let Coleman move inside in the nickel formations. He's got good not great speed and does very well breaking forward on passes. Bonner and Gray on the outside wouldn't bother me as much as PW23 and MT10 did.

Gray has me excited about the CB play of our future though. I watched him thr Lathers interception change direction and run downfield with ease on the broken play. In years past that would've been a TD because the CB wouldn't have been able to run with the WR.

I haven't really put much thought into the line up I wanna see. What do you think about moving McNeil to FS and letting Gordon move to SS. I feel like he's our best DB in run support and he has to be faster than Moore and take better angles. Brewer and Moore take terrible terrible tackling angles.

Taggart, Strong, and Shaw are 3 guys I would be the most interested in.

Personally, I don't really buy that Gruden is coming and I don't really want him that much either.

We don't use traditional free and strong safeties. Both safeties have to be able to play both roles depending on alignment. Gordon would get exposed bad in a free safety role. Also McNeil is the only safety showing up in run support at all. He can be good at it with experience.

Gordon blows too many coverages to play safety. I would play Orta and McNeil at safety.

FS: Orta
SS: McNeil
CB: Gray
CB/Star; Coleman
3rd CB: Bonner

Sunseri is dumb for not adjusting his players to his scheme. Saban never asked Rashard Johnson to play in the box at Bama. Woodall was the in the box guy. Sunseri thinks he can just line up and call defenses. Crazy crazy crazy...........

I don't get the Strong love - he has a terrible defense in Lville even in his 3rd year - he has not beaten 1 quality team in his time there and he has serious game management issues - I watch a lot of Lville games (dad still lives there) and imo this is not an upgrade

Right there. Keep in mind I'm not bashing you, but right there you said "Coach Dooley has made it worse". That's the sentiment driving all of the negativity. I agree that his performance has not been stellar but I also think the players themselves have a vestment to play to the best of their ability everytime they step on the field. Dropped balls and missed tackles have cost us the wins this year. These kids were recruited because they could catch and tackle. Scheme or no scheme they still have the fundamentals. If coaching is the sole problem, why is Z Rogers better this year - and JH not? I firmly believe this team is a product, a fragile product of last years beatdowns and is mentally having trouble. Coaching, perhaps. Players perhaps. But one thing is certain, all of this negativity is adding to the fragile mindset of these young players. Just me little old opinion.
Nice. Verrry nice.

I have wanted us to go after Strong since all the talk heated up about Dooley being fired. I think he would recruit well at UT, but really I am just ready for a clean slate other than maybe 2 assistants, Graham and Pittman.

I agree McNeil does show flashes and will get better, I was just looking for a better option than Moore back there.

I don't care how we work it they just need to get better in the secondary whatever that combination maybe. We have two teams that love to pass the ball coming up the next two weeks lets give it all a try and see what happens the coverage can't look worse.

I'm with BB. I would like to see Orta back there the rest of the year taking his lumps. Send a message to Moore that if he wants to play he has to man up.

Totally agree. We don't have the personnel to run what he wants, but he keeps trying to force it. Not to mention I have my doubts whether or not his can even call an effective defense with the right athletes.

Well so it starts. According to some boosters an announcement about Dooley will be made within 48 hours. Still quiet inside the ad. Strange stuff.

So, tomorrow afternoon for the media?

Dont know. Got 2 text from co-workers within minutes of 1 another saying within 48 hours most likely. Like i said last week, alot of folks around here felt Hart had already made his decision. Sucks, was hoping Dooley would make it.
