I don't get the we are more suited for a 4-3 talk - our secondary can't cover - that doesnt change in a 4-3 or a 3-4 - they would still struggle

you need to be able to rush the passer in a 4-3 too so if we were in a 4-3 we would still not be able to cover and still not be able to rush the passer

i see no reason why our LB's all of a sudden would start taking better angles and not giving up huge runs

the problems with our defense are just too large to fix with something this simple

In a 4-3 (tampa 2 styel) which we ran with wilcox, we played more zone and 2 deep coverage. So with our Less athletic DBs they arent forced into half as many one on one situations.

And The strength of our D is Dline and interior LBs, Which in a 4-3 allows more middle blitzes that are more "rub friendly" and that leaves you less likely to give up a big run even during a blitz

it is clear you know more about this than I do so educate me if needed - but isnt it more important for your LB's to be able to play in coverage in that type of scheme?

also wouldnt it be very important for you to be able to get to the QB with only bringing the front 4?

if those 2 things are true do you really think we would be able to do that?

Not playing Gray and Bonner has cost us more than it would've hurt us. Gray is the fastest CB in orange since Johnathan Wade(still remember him shutting down Desean Jackson). He's in the mold of the young Florida CBs. I'm very excited about the young CBs Coleman, Gray, and Bonner. McNeil is another one(he's getting baptised some right now but he'll be fine) that I like. We have no choice but to go young back there. Gordon is playing downright terrible right now. And the scheme has never really been a problem. Just more of an excuse to me. We run more 1 and 0 than anything and the older guys just aren't up to par. I'm watching games now just looking for future potential players on the defensive side of things.

I know I seen Gray out there yesterday, did Bonner get any PT? I looked for him but must've missed him if so.

Well your LBs would be playing more "bubble zones" which means you are covering like 5 yard bubble so that keeps you from having to match up one on one with Speedy Wrs in the slot and TE's (which have killed us this year)

and yes but since you are bringing 4 DL (which we have good DL) it allows more gaps in the interior of the line to blitz in which leaves LBs still able to keep contain,

As oppose to now when we blitz off the edge ( thats how a lot of our blitzes are set up) if they dont make the tackle or keep contain there is pretty much noone else to rely on which is why we get gashed so often

wilcox did not deserve a two year extension. the previous year he wanted out and forced our AD to give him a bigger deal.

forget wilcox. he had one foot out the door the minute he got here.

and his defenses werent worthy of any more money or years

He was also playing with Sun Belt level talent. and we had an average D.

He turned down more money at Texas to stay here.

Seriously??!! Do you think that it can get any worse? We are making average and below average QBs look like Heisman candidates!!! Shaw threw for 356 yards against us!! Did you see Tyler Russell's performance against Bama last night? It was terrible, because he is average at best, and our great, experienced DBs make him look all-world! I would much rather roll with true freshmen, and let them make some mistakes and learn from it. I'm tired of seeing us get gashed in the secondary week after week.

Yes. Been watching our defense make every opposing SEC QB look like an All- American and it's been frustrating. My point wasn't that I thought they'd be worse, I'm just not convinced being so young that they'd be significantly better. Coleman has looked very good at times this year, but he played himself out of the rotation last year by giving up big plays early on. I think that would have happened with these othaves us. But we will never know.

You and me both.

He was going through the opposite last year.

Doing all he could to keep the game close with an offense that was horrible.

Yep. In contrast to Sunseri, he also seemed to have a level of humility about what he could accomplish with the talent he had and built his scheme accordingly. 27th nationally in total defense looks like a dream right now.

In my mind, the biggest issue on D is not personnel and not players lacking an understanding of scheme (although both are clearly important). I think the issue is Sunseri. He's too pig headed and cocky about his scheme and what he can accomplish. He needs a level headedness about what his players can truly handle. The guys just look lost out there every game and they shouldn't be this deep in the season. It's on him more than anything, I believe.

I wasn't a Wilcox fan, but with the same D from last year we're a two loss team right now.

If Hart insisted on Sunseri it would seems like his hands are tied and DD will have the chance to move forward into next year. The D cinches up and the team is likely over the hump depending on who leaves early. But it seems like there may be some depth on O.

thats cool still doesnt change his history and his own failures.

again, we have gotten so used to just trying to be a litttle bit better that our failures, its sickening.

Jay, what are your thoughts on Gruden at UT? How successful do you think he will be?

I have no thoughts. it would be a see it, to believe it deal for me.

it is a different transition from Pro to College.

would just hope he learned from his mistakes at Tampa

While that might be the honorable thing, if true, it's all about the big money. We're all just waiting on what they big money wants for us next year.

Who would be your choice if you were AD? Personally, I would go with Shaw or Taggart.
